The success Kent State had on the field this past season has carried over in recruiting, and new head coach Paul Haynes is off to a great start. The latest commit is Cleveland Glenville speedster Chris Overton.

New Kent State head coach Paul Haynes has accepted the commitment of Cleveland Glenville speedster Chris Overton, as the momentum created by last season's success is carrying over in recruiting.

Overton, 5-foot-9, 160-pounds, enjoyed a fine career at Glenville, and was a threat to score every time he touched the football for the Tarblooders. He is being recruited as a wide receiver.

"I have committed to Kent State," Overton stated Monday evening. "Coach Haynes called me this afternoon after track practice and he said he was offering me a scholarship. He said he wanted to talk to my parents, and they spoke tonight."

"I called him back tonight and accepted the offer after talking to my parents," he added. "It's the right place for me because I have connected with Coach Haynes, and I wanted to stay in Ohio. I will probably be playing wide receiver and returning kicks for Kent State."

As one of the top students academically at Glenville, Overton also considered offers from Navy and Air Force, before choosing Kent State.
