Cincinnati high school basketball was shocked today with the firing of Western Hills High School basketball coach Terry Nelson. Nelson who had taken over the program three years ago when Lannis Timmons went to coach at Akron, is a former Cincinnati Bearcat and highly respected in basketball circles. All are mum on the reason for Nelson's firing. Please note that Nelson's teams were always competitive and he had a winning record. Athletic Director Kenny Laake, on the Primetime Sports Show (1230am) stated "you would have to talk to human resources about that." We'll definitely be giving them a call tomorrow.
Western Hills should hire Lannis Timmons to take back over the program. Timmons recently returned to Cincinnati to be closer to his wife and would be up to the challenge. "I definitely want the job," said Timmons. I told athletic director Laake that it was a no brainer. If this institution is about what is good for the kids, then the hiring of Timmons makes the most sense, seeing that he only left to go to the college level and is back in town. Timmons is also credited with the revival of the program and has three players currently playing Division 1 basketball (Darryl Peterson (Akron), Danny Horace (Miami), and Malcolm Andrews (Wright State).
