Week 4 Spotlight Recap

Here's the recap on my Week 4 Game....Benedictine @ Fremont Ross.

Well like I said last week, the first 3 games I saw were all barnburner down-to-the-wire games. Last week wasn't. Benedictine, the Div III powerhouse, simply over powerered and dominated the Fremont Ross Little Giants.

Right from the get go, Benedictine set the tone. They held Ross to a three and out and got great field position. Mr. Football Candidate Raymond Williams didn't waste much time. He took the ball on the four of the 1st five plays and found paydirt on his fourth carry of the drive.

The Bengals of Benedictine would score again early in the 1st, but Ross wouldn't quit. They had a drive in the second quarter that lasted nearly the entire period. A big fake punt netted them 39 yards and put them in position for a TJ George field goal.

Benedictine struck back quick and often. OPS Player of the Game Jon Huddleston took a punt 54 yards for a TD (thanks to a great wall setup and a nice seal block by none other than Ray Williams) and also took an INT 24 yards for a TD.

The score at halftime was 35-3. Ross surprised all by kicking and recovering a 2nd half onside kick, but Benedictine wasn't phased. Chris Austin, who rushed for a TD in the 1st quarter, scored another in the second half. He and Williams combined for 249 of Benedictines 400+ rushing yards. The final score ended up 49-10.

Players of the Game:

Benedictine: Jon Huddleston

Ross: Julius Simms

Players That Impressed Me:

Ray Williams
Joe Schaefer
William Brody
Sam Koyl
Jon Huddleston

Julius Simms

Some side notes:

**Sam Koyl might be one of the best three kickers in the state. He's got great height, distance and hang time on his kickoffs...

**Jon Huddleston is a gamebreaker. He is overshadowed by the rest of the squad but he is something special.

**Watch out for Lorenzo Hunter in years to come. He's a 6'4 180 pound sophomore receiver for Benedictine. They didn't get the ball to him, but he looks to have all the necessary tools to be great.

**Ross needs to lighten the burden of their schedule. They are makings decent progress in turning the program back around, but they need to ease up on the scheduling a bit.

I would like to thank the people at Fremont for the great time. Nice football atmosphere and friendly people. I will most likely be at the Benedictine @ Columbus Watterson game this Friday. I'll be in Columbus all weekend and this looks to be the best game. Look for more photos from the first 4 weeks later today.
