MANY BIG GAMES IN WEEK 8

OPS takes a look at some of week 8 biggest games. See what is at stake with each of them and if we missed some let us know.

A look at this week around Ohio brings many great match-ups for the football fan. Here's a look at the games many will be following in week 8 of the 2003 season. Much is at stake for some of these teams.

Hilliard Davidson (6-1) v Westerville South (7-0) The top two teams in Region 3 will battle for bragging rights. This should go down till the final gun is sounded. Both teams will battle in Region 3 during the playoffs with South sitting with a nice lead for a home game. A loss by Davidson could mean a round 1 game away from home.

St Edward (6-1) v St Ignatius (7-0) What many call the Holy War, sees Ignatius put its perfect record on the line. A win by either team means many computer points and a sure home game in round 1 of the playoffs. Can St. Ed's pull the upset against the AP's # 1 team?

Coldwater (7-0) v Versailles (7-0) Both come into this contest looking to stay perfect. Both schools know how to win and OPS will have Craig on the sidelines for this one. Coldwater sits at the top in Region 14, while Versailles sits at the two spot in Region 16. Much is at stake with bragging rights and taking a step towards a state championship run.

Benedictine (7-0) v Cardinal Mooney (6-1) Benedictine sits at the top of Region 9 and has one of the most exciting players in the state. At anytime Ray Williams can take over a game. Mooney sits at the top of Region 13 with many others on their heels. Can Mooney stop Williams? That is going to be the question asked by fans.

Moeller (4-3) v Col DeSales (4-3) This is as big game for DeSales, they are sitting in a tight race for a playoff spot in Region 10. They have played the Big schools tough and are looking to send Moeller back to Cincinnati with a L. Moeller needs a win to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot in Region 4. A loss and any chance of a playoff run ends.

Elder (6-1) v St Xavier (4-2) Throw out the record books. When these two teams meet anything can happen. Elder is sitting in good shape for the playoffs in Region 4, but a loss and the Panthers will not host a first round game. X must win, they have seen close games during the season and with 2 L's on the books the playoffs look bleak.

Indian Hill (6-1) v Reading (5-2) Reading is looking to stay in the hunt for a first round game. A loss to Indian Hill lowers any chance of that happening. Indian Hills is on the edge of making the playoffs. A loss to Reading will open the door for a team in Region 12.

Princeton (6-1) v Lakota East (6-1) Much is at stake for both teams. The team that loses is out of the playoffs. The one that wins is still looking for a few more wins to get into the 8th spot of Region 4. Can East stop the one man highlight Jarrell Williams? If not its going to be a long night.

Cuyahoga Hts (7-0) v Gilmour (7-0) Cuyahoga Heights control their own way into the Region 21 playoffs. A victory against a bigger school gives them more room. Many points are on the line. Gilmour sits on top of Region 17 and is looking to stay that way.

Dalton (6-1) v Smithville (7-0) This is one of the games to watch. Much is at stake for each team as they fight for a chance to be in the Region 17 playoffs. A Smithville win and a chance of a home game looks great. A loss and Dalton should also get in.

Delphos St John's (6-1) v Marion Local (5-2) When these two teams play everyone knows the winner has a great chance for a long playoff run. A loss by Local shouldn't keep them from the playoffs.

Dublin Scioto (6-1) v Oletangy (5-2) Oletangy is on the outside looking in, a victory will give them nice points for beating a DI team. Scioto is sitting in a nice spot but have a few teams looking for them to lose.

Eaton (6-1) v Valley View (7-0) These two teams battle each year and much is at stake. Eaton looks out of any playoff run and Valley View needs a win along with some other teams to lose. While Valley View should make the playoffs, the teams they have played and beaten this year have not been some of the best.

Gahanna Lincoln (6-1) v Pickerington Central (7-0) Central sits on top of Region 7 with Lincoln sitting on the outside looking in at Region 3. This is a big game for Lincoln if they wish to have a chance of getting into the playoffs.

Kettering Alter (6-1) v Poland (5-2) Poland needs this game for a chance to enter the playoff picture in Region 11. Alter is sitting in a nice position but will not want a loss. A victory for the Knights here and they have a real good chance to have a home game in round one. The Knights will also have a big battle coming up with Dayton CJ.

Bishop Fenwick (5-2) v Trenton Edgewood (7-0) Edgewood is looking strong, Fenwick needs the win to have a chance to get into the playoffs.

Licking Valley (7-0) v Whitehall (7-0) Licking Valley is sitting on top of Region 12 and a victory over DII Whitehall just gives them more points. Whitehall needs a victory to have a chance to host a first round playoff game.

Triad (7-0) v Springfield Catholic Central (7-0) Computer points are high in this game. Both teams are fighting in Region 24 a loss by either of them shouldn't hurt them as for the playoffs. But a home game and playing a lower seed will be the prize for the victor.

Vandalia Butler (5-2) v Xenia (4-3) A few weeks ago this looked to be a big game. It now is for Butler only. They need the victory for the extra DI computer points they would get from Xenia. The Bucs are out of the picture with back-to-back loses to Wayne and Centerville. Butler could see their playoff run come up short with a loss, and other teams winning in Region 8.

Troy Christian (6-1) v DeGraff Riverside (6-1) Region 24 points are on the minds of both teams. Each are looking to stay in the playoffs. While neither looks to leave with a loss, it opens the door for other teams to have a chance. Both teams control their own destiny.
