The one thing about Ohio High School Football is it's a family tradition. For many years the Tupa family has followed football at the high school, college and pro level. When you have a family member who succeeds at each level, your entire family follows the short career of a football player.
The last thing a family thinks about is something tragic happening. Watching many games during this time, it becomes second nature seeing injuries and the bumps and bruises the game provides. That all changed for one Ohio family rich in football history.
Every Ohio football fan has heard the name Tom Tupa. The former Ohio State quarterback / punter and current Tampa Bay Buc has seen a long career playing the sport. Following in his uncles footsteps is Mark Tupa Jr., a member of the Cleveland St. Ignatius football program.
During a game on September 11, Mark, 14, and another player had a head-on collision. After the hit, Mark didn't get up and lay temporarily paralyzed on the field. Today, Mark remains in serious condition . The encouraging news is Mark is beginning to regain the feelings in his extremities.
OhioPrepScene sends our thoughts and prayers out to the Tupa family, and wish Mark a speedy recovery. If you would like to help the Tupa family, arrangements have been made with KeyCorp to accept donations at any of the bank's branches.
