DAVE'S PICKS DII -DVI

Here are my look at the DVI to the DII playoffs. Four teams are left in each region. Who do I think will advance? Check it out and see for yourself.

Well for those who felt I disrespected small schools last week in not having picks for DVI or DV, I'm sorry! I ran out of time and didn't get a chance to do them. So this week in looking at Week Two I will start with DVI and go up.

DVI

REGION 21

TEAMS LEFT

MOGADORE

MONROEVILLE

SANDUSKY ST. MARY C.C.

WINDHAM

For the most part all four teams had close games. The biggest difference in score was 8 points. The surprise team to advance was Sandusky St. Mary C.C. who came into the playoffs with a 6 - 4 record. Otherwise the top seeds advanced. I like Mogadore to advance in a close game with Monroeville. Can Sandusky pull another upset? Windham hopes not! But I will take the higher seed and pick Windham to advance to the next round.

REGION 22

TEAMS LEFT

COLUMBUS GROVE

NORTHWOOD

RAWSON CORY-RAWSON

CAREY

In play last week the #1 & #2 seeds advanced only to see a #5 along with the #6 seed to knock off higher seeds. My first pick is Columbus Grove, they look like a 10 - 0 teams and have a great chance to go all the way. In the second game I will take the higher seed also in Rawson Cory-Rawson.

REGION 23

TEAMS LEFT

NEWARK CATHOLIC

CENTERBURG

SHADYSIDE

LANCASTER FISHER CATHOLIC

All the top seeds advanced in this region. I still like Newark Catholic and Shadyside to advance. Shadyside needs to get its offense in gear or they could get sent home. But teams that have tough first round games can sometimes come up big in second round games and that's what I'm counting on.

REGION 24

TEAMS LEFT

MARIA STEIN MARION LOCAL

SPFLD CATHOLIC CENTRAL

DOLA HARDIN NORTHERN

NORTH LEWISBURG TRIAD

I was not surprised in seeing Covington lose to Marion Local. This area of the state knows how to win football games. Just look at the teams they have to play each year and you will see why. I don't care if there a #5 seed, they just know how to win. As much as I would like to see Spfld. Catholic Central win, I don't know if they are ready for a team like Marion Local. In the other match-up I like Dola Hardin Northern to advance over Triad.

DV

REGION 17

TEAMS LEFT

LISBON DAVID ANDERSON

DALTON

WARREN JFK

LIMA SOUTH RANGE

The # 1 seed was dropped in the first round and that opens the door for a team like Warren JFK to come out of this region. But this week they have to win for even a chance to do this. Can Lisbon get up for another big game? I look for Dalton to win this one and I like what I have seen from Warren JFK all season. But Warren JFK will have a big test in South Range who knocked off a very good Independence team in week one. I look for a Dalton and JFK game in round three.

REGION 18

TEAMS LEFT

PATRICK HENRY

CLEARVIEW

ELMWOOD

ST. JOHNS

A #5 and #7 seed advance for week two, don't look for their seasons to head into week three. Delphos St. Johns is ready to make another run towards a title. Just like Marion Local, the teams they play prepare them for these games. I like what Elmwood has shown this season, the fact they destroyed Mohawk to advance tells me St. Johns won't walk through this one. But how do you pick against them. Clearview and Patrick Henry will also be close, but I'll take the #1 seed to advance to play St. Johns in week three.

REGION 19

TEAMS LEFT

AMANDA-CLEARCREEK

MONROE CENTRAL

SHENANDOAH

WHEELERSBURG

Wheelersburg is the spoiler in this group. By playing teams in upper divisions this season helped them get in the playoffs. But they only played 4 teams with winning records and lost two of those games. Shenandoah played 5 teams with winning records, but some of them were to Division 6 teams. I feel Shenandoah should win this game but I'm going to pick Wheelersburg in the upset. I like Amanda-Clearcreek to advance in the other game.

REGION 20

TEAMS LEFT

MARION PLEASANT

GAHANNA COLUMBUS ACADEMY

PAINT VALLEY

MORRAL RIDGEDALE

These are both going to be great games. I would pay to see Pleasant and Academy play. Paint Valley had a tough opener with Cincinnati Hills Christian and if not for an injury to CHC's running back they may not have advanced. I will take Ridgedale in this match-up. As I said I would buy a ticket to watch the first game. Marion Pleasant has earned our top spot in the Top 10, for that I will pick them to advance into the next round of the playoffs.

DIV

REGION 13

TEAMS LEFT

BLACK RIVER

WOOSTER TRIWAY

APPLE CREEK WAYNEDALE

CLEV. VILLA ANGELA-ST. JOSEPH

Villa Angela - St. Joseph proved they belong with a slaughter of Cardinal Mooney in round one. Even with the great season Apple Creek Waynedale has shown, I like the play of St. Joseph and will pick them to advance. I will also take Black River to advance in the other game.

REGION 14

TEAMS LEFT

URBANA

DELTA

LIMA BATH

COLDWATER

This is just a great bracket. Lima Bath comes up big against Upper Sandusky but will see its season end when they play Coldwater. Delta and Urbana is a hard one to call, but Urbana played up most of the season and I feel that will pay off in this game. Urbana is the pick to advance.

REGION 15

TEAMS LEFT

IRONTON

BELLAIRE

COSHOCTON

MARTINS FERRY

I'm going with the easy picks in this bracket. Ironton and Coshocton should and will advance to play each other in week three.

REGION 16

TEAMS LEFT

CLINTON MASSIE

MARIEMONT

VERSAILLES

READING

No matter who I pick in this one I will hear about it. Massie beat a tough Oakwood team by shutting them out. Mariemont played a tough Jonathan Alder team to advance. I like Clinton Massie in a close one to advance. I have heard already from several Reading people about not giving them respect and how Massie is not that good of a team. Well that was early in the season, but Massie still beat you. This week you play power house Versailles, enough said. Versailles is looking like some of the great teams from the past. That is scary when you consider those teams played and won state crowns. I look for a great game but Versailles will prevail and advance. I feel that they will come out of this bracket.

DIII

REGION 9

TEAMS LEFT

BENEDICTINE

HUNTING VALLEY UNIVERSITY

WEST GEAUGA

MENTOR LAKE CATHOLIC

Benedictine is the team to beat in this bracket. They will beat Hunting Valley and keep a rolling. The other game should be a good one, I pick Mentor Lake to advance only to lose to Benedictine in the next round.

REGION 10

TEAMS LEFT

BEECHCROFT

KENTON

ST FRANCIS DESALES

BISHOP WATTERSON

Does any other bracket look any harder to advance from? I don't think so! I would pay to see the De Sales/Watterson game. Toss a coin and you will have your winner. Since I have to pick, I'll go with De Sales. Beechcroft upset Big Walnut only to see a previous champion waiting. I you would have asked anyone in the state would Kenton be in the hunt for another title, they would have told you NO! But here they are and they are always dangerous. I like there chances to advance and that's my pick.

REGION 11

TEAMS LEFT

STEUBENVILLE

LISBON BEAVER

SHERIDAN

CANAL FULTON NW

Well the team I liked to advance was Dover, Wrong! They went out in the first round to Sheridan. I don't see them beating Canal Fulton NW in the next round. Steubenville should and will advance to the next round and look to be the team to advance to the state semifinals.

REGION 12

TEAMS LEFT

KETTERING ALTER

NEWARK LICKING VALLEY

VALLEY VIEW

WYOMING

Licking Valley came up big against Dayton CJ, they will have another GCL North test this week with Alter. The Knights were looking for another game with CJ but will ready to stop the running game of Licking Valley. When a team wins a game like Licking Valley did last week, its hard to get up for another. The Knights will use ball control and keep Licking Valley's offense off the field. Alter to advance. Valley View and Wyoming will be close, each played many weak teams during the season. With this game being on grass I will take Valley View to advance.

DII

REGION 5

TEAMS LEFT

WARREN HOWLAND

COPLEY

MACEDONIA NORDONIA

CHARDON

This is a very nice bracket. Howland was pushed into double overtime by 5-5 Twinsburg. Now they will travel to Twinsburg for a chance to advance into the next round. Copley had one less day to prepare for this game, but should give Howland all they can handle. My pick is Howland to advance. My pick to advance out of this bracket last week was Nordonia, that has not changed. Chardon will give them a game, but the running game of Nordonia will be more than they can handle.

REGION 6

TEAMS LEFT

SYLVANIA SOUTHVIEW

DEFIANCE

AVON LAKE

MAUMEE

I like Southview to advance in a close game with Defiance. This will not be easy and a win by Defiance is not out of the question. Avon Lake looks primed to make a long run and is the pick over Maumee in the other game.

REGION 7

TEAMS LEFT

BROOKHAVEN

WHITEHALL-YEARLING

LOUISVILLE

INDEPENDENCE

Louisville comes in with a 6-4 regular season mark. Their playoff run is over when they meet Independence. I would pay to see Brookhaven and Yearling play. I like both teams and this is a hard one to pick. As much as I want to say Brookhaven, I like what I have seen on tape of Whitehall-Yearling all season. My pick Whitehall-Yearling but a FG.

REGION 8

TEAMS LEFT

EDGEWOOD

CARROLL

KINGS

JACKSON

I have heard from many Edgewood fans late in the season about respect. I picked them to beat Butler in a great game and they did. I also will pick them to advance over Carroll who surprised me with a victory over McNicholas in round one. I don't know if Kings is as strong as years past, but I like the coaching they have and will stick with them in this one over a tough Jackson team.

I will have my DI picks later in the week. If you disagree with my picks go to the OPS FOOTBALL MESSAGE BOARD AND GIVE US YOURS.
