Did Ohio get respect with the current Student Sports National Fab 50 Preseason Basketball rankings? Two teams from the Buckeye State have made this list of top teams from across the country. With Ohio being known for its football, the Fab 50 on Student Sports has seen as many as 3-4 teams from the state listed in rankings at one time. In basketball getting two teams ranked seems to be the norm. Are there more than two buckeye state schools that should be ranked? Time will only tell, last season Student Sports ranked LeBron James and Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary at the #7 spot and followed with Columbus Brookhaven in the #10 postion. With this ranking of two schools in the preseason, Ohio must be starting to gain some respect in Boy's hoops that it deserves.
The two teams listed are as followed.
22. Moeller (Cincinnati, Ohio) 23-4 (29)
Three starters are back from last season's state Division 1 title team, the school's second in five years. All-state forward Josh Duncan (6-7), an Xavier recruit, anchors the lineup which includes 6-7 Andrew Brackman and 6-1 Adam Walther, an Akron signee. Duncan averaged 20 points and 11 rebounds last season. **Brackman is a NC State recruit**
49. St. John's (Toledo, Ohio) 21-5 (nr)
Three starters return from a state Division I Final Four team, including 6-2 senior all-stater Brian Roberts, who averaged 18 points last season. Others are juniors B.J. Raymond (6-5) and Zach Hillesland (6-7). Sixth man Ted Heintschel (6-1) also returns.
Ozie did an interview with B.J. Raymond a few weeks ago and here is the link if you missed it.
