Patrick is a good student with a 2.85 GPA. No test scores are in at this time, but I don't see him having a problem with qualifying.
HIGH SCHOOL POSITION: QUARTERBACK
COLLEGE POSITION: ATHLETE / QUARTERBACK
COLLEGE PROSPECT LEVEL: D-I / D-I-AA - Patrick is going to see several schools look his way. He's a great looking athlete, shows a live arm and the ability to escape when under pressure. At this time I consider him a project, but a project with a great upside.
In watching film of Patrick Tanner, I see a young quarterback that is still in the developing stages of his football career. Patrick has a fluid motion, an easy release and the ability to escape from pressure. Work on QB skills will help Patrick move up the recruiting charts. He's a project, but one with a great upside and I see colleges looking at him because of this. Patrick may be the biggest sleeper at the QB position in Ohio this year.
POSITIVES: Patrick has a strong arm being able to throw the ball 30-50 yards without effort. He plays in a multi offense with both traditional and spread formations. I see colleges that use the spread to give some hard looks his way. Being able to play another position will make it easier for colleges to take a chance on him. Patrick shows very good feet and is quick in his drops and setup. Patrick's body is also not fully developed and I project him to be around 6'2 200-210 lbs. in three years with hard work in a college weight room.
NEGATIVES: Touch, Patrick needs work with his touch, both long and short passes. On film he throws the outs and the in-between passes above average. On longer passes, he's just throwing it up for his receivers to make the play. This I feel will come in time and more experience at the position, but it's his weakness and an area that he needs to really work on.
OVERALL: Patrick has great upside. He shows great athletic ability and an above average arm. He's a project at quarterback, but shows the early skills to develop into a very good quarterback in the right system. His recruiting will be helped with camps this summer. If a D-I program doesn't take a chance, someone is going to pickup a great prospect. Schools showing interest - Kentucky, Iowa and Indiana.
