The May Spotlight Player of the Month is Kevin Gray, a 5'9 post from Columbus. Kevin is best described as a man-child and a workhorse, who refuses to lose.

Despite his height, which is a bit undersized for the position (center) he is forced to play for his teams, Kevin often dominates the boards against much taller opponents.  Although his physical maturity is a key asset, as is his ability to shoot, his true talent lies in his determination and will to win.

Kevin is currently a 6th grader at Groveport North Middle School. This past winter basketball season, Kevin averaged 27 ppg 10 rpg, 5 apg and 6 spg.  During one game this winter, Kevin scored 53 points.  Kevin is the all-time leading scorer in the history of the Westside Boys Club with 1663 points.  Over the last 3 years at the boys club, Kevin lead his team to a record of 100 wins and 2 losses, including 2 undefeated seasons.  In the spring and summer, Kevin hoops with the Columbus Jaguars.  Last summer, Kevin led the Jaguars to a 6th place finish in the AAU Nationals in Cocoa Beach, Florida.

Kevin has received numerous individual honors including his selection as the Co-MVP of the 2002 USSSA Nationals. Last year alone, Kevin received three MVP awards, including his selection as the Columbus Jaguars Team MVP last August.  Most recently, Kevin was selected as the MVP for the Central Ohio Nike tournament. Kevin's success on the basketball court has not gone unnoticed by local and national talent evaluators.  In fact, OhioPrepScene.com and the Buckeye Prep Report both rank Kevin as the number one 6th grader in Ohio.  Although Kevin is ranked nationally, he is grossly under-ranked at # 40.

In terms of his long-term goals, Kevin, along with his brother Kenneth, would like to lead Hampton University to the NCAA Final Four. As proof that Kevin is more than just a basketball player, he carries a current GPA of 3.41 and has been on the Honor Roll his entire school career.  Kevin's favorite subjects are science and social studies.  Kevin's other interests include: listening to music, playing video games and chess.  Finally, Kevin is an active member of New Birth Christian Ministries where he serves on the Usher Board, Youth Ministry and sings in the Youth Choir.  Remember the name, this kid has a great future ahead of him.
