That honor goes to Copley High School and Syracuse verbal commitment Delone Carter. For the season, Carter rushed for 2,788 yards and 47 touchdowns while helping Copley (Akron, Ohio) to a 9-3 record. Carter also showed his ability to catch and help on special teams by pulling in two touchdowns passes and returning five kicks for 174 yards.
Carter beat out the following players for Ohio's highest honor.
Ross Homan - Coldwater High School
Nate Davis - Bellaire High School
Tyler Moeller - Colerain High School
With Carter winning the award, Ohio's biggest honor stays in Northeast Ohio for another year. Last years winner, Tyrell Sutton (Northwestern) and Carter were teammates at Akron Hoban for two years before Carter left for Copley entering his junior year.
Both players didn't receive the press coverage or recruiting coverage many felt they should have. Sutton didn't see an Ohio State offer and showed those in Ohio he belonged at the college level by being the number two rusher in the Big Ten with 1,390 yards as a "True Freshman".
