The class of the Greater Catholic League will meet the class of the Greater Miami Conference in the southwest Ohio (Dayton) regional final Saturday at 11am at Wright State's Nutter Center.
Moeller ended up being just too much for the feisty Springboro team that spent it's first year in D-I rolling through the district and sectional championships. Led by Josh Duncan (11points), Drew Brackman (18 points), and Bubby Walther (6 assists) the Crusaders were only up by two at the end of the first half, and didn't start to pull away until Springboro went cold and Moeller's D turned up the heat. Moeller held Springboro to one point in the fourth quarter and that was the story of the game. 53-44 Moeller.
If Moeller is to prevail Saturday, that defense will have to be just as stingy because the Big Blue will be riding an emotional high into the Nutter center. Down eight points with 3:02 left in regulation, the Big Blue would not die. Princeton decided to continue attacking the basket, and Hamilton capitalized on good defense and the biggest shot of Brandon Lampley's life. With Princeton up three and six seconds left, Lampley hit a DEEP three from the corner to send the game into overtime. When Mark Dorris (the best player on the floor on either team) fouled out, it was over for the Vikings. Hamilton went on to win the game 66-64.
What a night for Hamilton sophomores Adam Myers (16 points) and Jason Miller (12 points) as they stepped up when star John Smith sat out practically the whole first half in foul trouble. Senior Josh Couch led the Big Blue with 19, but none were bigger than the Lampley 3 that sent the game into overtime. The Vikings were led by Jurrell Williams (19 points), Mark Dorris (15 points) and Ross Morin (16 points). It's hard to call the regional final, but I'll take the Big MOE by 5.
