Player: Saeed Holt
School: Woodland Hills (PA)
Committed to: Toledo
Scout Penn Preps will be bringing scouting reports on some of the best players in Pennsylvania. This report is on 2017 safety Saeed Holt out of Woodland Hills High School (Pittsburgh, PA). Holt committed to Toledo Rockets back in June of this year.
Man-to-Man Coverage: Holt’s 2015 highlights show him playing mostly outside linebacker for his high school team. I was able to see Holt on a couple of different occasions during a couple of 7v7 tournaments and came away convinced that he would have no problem covering as a safety at the next level.
Tackling: Holt is physical and is a good open-field tackler. He made 78 tackles (39 solo) during his junior year and also forced two fumbles.
Technique: As I said before, his film doesn't really show it, but Holt can cover like a cornerback. Holt's worked hard on improving flexibility in his hips and that enables him to turn and run with receivers without losing
Speed: Holt has a burst to him and is able to turn and run with receivers down the field. He has a lot of range and does not let too many plays go over the top of him.
One thing to work on: It depends on how he's used this year on defense, but getting more game-reps at safety would definitely help his development for the next level. But of course, I understand that he has to play the position where his team needs him the most.
OVERALL: Toledo has made it a point to recruit players from Western Pennsylvania hard over the past several years. In Holt, they'll be getting a player who is very competitive and doesn't back down from anyone. Holt trains with the 2/10ths group out of Pittsburgh (PA) and they're known for having intense workout and practice sessions. As he gets more in-game experience at the safety position, Holt will continue to become an even better prospect at the position. Holt's experience on the 7v7 circuit with Team Evolve (Pittsburgh, PA) definitely added to his development at the safety position during the off-season.
