The schedules of the defending state champions in Pennsylvania

Penn Preps takes a look at the schedules for the four teams that won state championships in football in 2015: Bishop Guilfoyle, Southern Columbia, Imotep Charter and Pittsburgh Central Catholic.

Penn Preps takes a look at the schedules for the four teams that won state championships in football in 2015: Bishop Guilfoyle, Southern Columbia, Imotep Charter and Pittsburgh Central Catholic.  Last year there were four classifications in Pennsylvania.  Now, there are six classifications.

Bishop Guilfoyle – 2015 PIAA Class A Champions – 2015 RECORD 16-0

2016 Classification: Class A

Bishop Guilfoyle has won 32 games in a row (undefeated in 2014 and 2015) and two straight PIAA Class A Championships. They’ll attempt to win a third championship without star athlete Evan Chadbourn.  Chadbourn suffered a season-ending knee injury several weeks ago.  Even though Bishop Guilfoyle will miss Chadbourn, they have more than enough to push for a third title.  It all starts up front and Bishop Guilfoyle has the biggest offensive and defensive lines in Class A.  Luke Frederick (DE) and Andrew Irwin (LB) anchor a Bishop Guilfoyle defense that didn't give up hardly any meaningful points last season.  QB/DB Josh Trybus is a big factor on both sides of the ball.  There's not too many teams in Single A that will be able to stop the Marauders from doing what they want to do on the field.

The Tigers return three starters on offense and two on defense.  Senior running back Hunter Thomas (5’10”, 195) will shoulder the bulk of the load in the backfield.  The Tigers averaged 46.1 points per game and outscored their opponents by a margin of 17.4 points per game.

Imhotep Charter – PIAA CLASS AAA Champions - 2015 RECORD 15-0

2016 Classification: Class AAAA

Outside of their close playoff win over Archbishop Wood last year, Imhotep Charter steamrolled over everybody else on their schedule to their first state championship. Granted, the Panthers lost most of their massive offensive line from last year due to graduation. However, almost every skill player is back, including quarterback Nasir Boykins and athlete Aamir Brown.  Defensively,  they should be stingy again even after losing a pair of excellent defensive ends in Andre MIntze (Vanderbilt) and Shaka Toney (Penn State).  Defensive backs Mike Crawford and Isheem Young, along with linebacker Amin Black, lead Imhotep’s fast and relentless defense.

Pittsburgh Central Catholic – PIAA CLASS AAAA Champions – 2015 RECORD 15-1

2016 Classification: Class AAAAAA

After losing in the state title game two years ago against St. Joseph’s Prep, Pittsburgh Central Catholic bullied their way to a state title featuring a rugged defense and an offense that featured more balance in the Vikings offense than what we’ve become accustomed to over the past several years. The Vikings return their entire starting offensive line from the 2015 season which includes Penn State commit C.J. Thorpe and Notre Dame commit Kurt Hinish.  Dave Adams, a Notre Dame commit, will lead the Vikings defensively.  The Vikings will have some inexperience at the wide receiver and defensive back positions.  St. John's (DC) will test them immediately and conference games with Pine-Richland and North Allegheny ensures that Pittsburgh Central Catholic will have one of the toughest schedules in the first six weeks.
