District 1: Top 5 games for Week 2, News and Notes

Scout Penn Preps takes a look at the top five games in each district for Week Two and provides some additional news and notes on some of the players from each district.

Carlisle (1-0) vs. Red Land (2-0)

Conrad Weiser (0-1) vs. Berks Catholic (1-0, CLASS AAAA #8)

Dematha (MD) (2-0) vs. Bishop McDevitt (1-1, CLASS AAAA #7)

Spring-Ford (2-0) vs. Wilson West Lawn (1-0)

Susquehanna Township (1-0) vs. Central Dauphin (1-0, CLASS AAAAAA #4)

PENN PREPS PICK FOR BEST GAME:  Dematha (MD) vs. Bishop McDevitt (1-1).  This will clearly be the toughest football team that Bishop McDevitt faces all year.  Bishop McDevitt was able to right the ship after losing their home-opener by beating Harrisburg 28-12 last weekend.  DeMatha comes in as a top-ten nationally ranked team that has several Division I prospects on its roster.  Bishop McDevitt will have to play mistake-free football and score a lot of points to keep up with the Stags.

Susquehanna Township vs. Central Dauphin will be the best game between District 3 teams this week.  Central Dauphin is very physical on defense and Susquehanna Township can’t afford to be one-dimensional this week.  The Indians will need some big pass plays if they plan on keeping Central Dauphin on their heels defensively.

I personally saw Red Land defeat Bishop McDevitt and it certainly was no fluke.  The Patriots had a lot of returning players and one of the best running backs in the conference in Justin Johnson.  Carlisle made short work out of Mechanicsburg last week (44-0) and should give Red Land more of a test offensively than what they’ve faced in their first two games.

Wilson-West Lawn plays a tough Spring-Ford team out of District I this weekend.  Will the Bulldogs overlook Spring-Ford in anticipation for their match-up against Central Dauphin next weekend? I doubt it, but I had to ask the question anyway.
