SCOUT PENN PREPS takes a look at the District III playoffs that begin this week.

SCOUT PENN PREPS gives a quick take on the opening week for District III football playoffs.

No. 1 Central Dauphin (9-1) vs. No. 8 Manheim Township (6-4)

No. 4 Cumberland Valley (7-3) vs. No. 5 Warwick (8-2)

No. 2 Wilson (9-1) vs. No. 7 Central York (7-3)

No. 3 Red Lion (10-0) vs. Central Dauphin East (6-4)

Cleezy’s Quick Take: Cumberland Valley is coming off a tough loss to Harrisburg but will be favored going into Warwick. Central Dauphin will be taking on Manheim Township for the second time this year. Even with the transfer of Micah Parsons to Harrisburg, Central Dauphin is favored to win the championship. Expect Cumberland Valley and Central Dauphin to meet up for the second time this year in the semi-finals. Red Lion is undefeated, but Central Dauphin East may be more battle-tested. The home-field advantage may tip the scales in Red Lion’s favor, but Central Dauphin East will have to play mistake-free football.

No. 1 Governor Mifflin (9-1) vs. No. 8 Waynesboro (7-3)

No. 4 Exeter Township (8-2) vs. No. 5 Harrisburg (7-3)

No. 2 Manheim Central (9-1) vs. No. 7 Cedar Cliff (9-1)

No. 3 Northeastern (8-2) vs. No. 6 Cocalico (7-3)

Cleezy’s quick take: This is the most competitive class as you have three teams that we feel have legitimate shots to take the championship : Governor Mifflin, Manheim Central, and Harrisburg. Harrisburg has the toughest road to the championship game but may have the best collection of talent of any teams in this field. Exeter should give them a competitive game in the quarterfinals. No. 2 Manheim Central draws a one-loss Cedar Cliff team that is very capable of putting points on the board.

No. 1 Berks Catholic (9-1) vs. No. 8 East Pennsboro (7-3)

No. 4 York Suburban (8-2) vs. No. 5 Lampeter-Strasburg (6-4)

No. 2 Shippensburg (9-1) vs. Northern York (7-3)

No. 3 Bishop McDevitt (6-4) vs. Milton Hershey (7-3)

Cleezy’s quick take: Bishop McDevitt has played the strongest schedule out of all of the teams involved, but will be without quarterback Tayvon Bowers who was lost for the season due to a knee injury. With one game under his belt, we expect sophomore quarterback Chase Diehl to be up for the challenge against Milton Hershey. Bishop McDevitt will want to keep a close eye on Milton Hershey quarterback/athlete Keonte’ Lucas. East Pennsboro will have its hands full in their road game against No. 1 Berks Catholic.

No. 1 Middletown (10-0) vs. No. 4 Littlestown (8-2)

No. 2 Wyomissing (7-3) vs. No. 3 Bermudian Springs (8-2)

Cleezy’s quick take: No. 1 Middletown has the best running game in the district with Jaelen Thompson leading the way. Since only four teams make the playoffs, both match-ups are must-see football games. We’re predicting No. 1 Middletown vs. No. 2 Wyomissing in the finals.

No. 1 York Catholic (9-1) vs. No. 2 Newport (9-1)

Cleezy’s quick take: We’re going with No. 1 York Catholic.

No. 1 Halifax (6-4) vs. No. 2 Steelton-Highspire (3-7)

Cleezy’s quick take: We would not be surprised to see Steelton-Highspire pull this one off. They’ve played one of the toughest schedules that you’ll see a Class A school play and that’s on a yearly basis.
