R.J. Oben is a 6-foot-3, 225 pound defensive end out of the state of New Jersey. Oben, who is currently a sophomore, currently holds offers from Louisville, Ball State and Virginia. Scout Penn Preps had a chance to watch Oben recently at a Nike Camp in New Jersey.
If his last name sounds familiar, well, it should. His father, Roman Oben, played offensive tackle in the NFL for twelve years. So it's not surprising to see that the younger Oben is more technically sound than most players his age (15). Oben's strength and quickness off the ball allowed him to win most of the 1v1's I was able to witness. Oben wasn't a one-trick pony with his moves as he used both power and finesse get past offensive lineman during the 1v1 session.
Oben has received a lot of interest from both ACC and Big Ten Schools. Oben visited Duke, Virginia and North Carolina during the month of March. Oben is scheduled to camp at Penn State Nittany Lions (June 11th) in June and he'll possible to go Virginia Tech and Syracuse to camp as well.
