2011 P/K Stephen Doar Has Regional Interest

After being an all-state selection last year P/K Stephen Doar has had a strong senior season so far. As one of the state's top punters Doar has strengthened his skills as a kicker after taking over those duties this season as well. Come inside with SCPrepNation.com to learn more about Doar as he's already receiving plenty of regional interest for his talents.

Stephen Doar Profile

Ask any coach the importance of a good punter and often you'll get a long discussion about the value of field position. They may not get the glory that other skill players get but a punter with a big leg is an obvious asset to almost any team.

Landrum punter Stephen Doar has been making his mark for the Cardinals the past two seasons. In fact, last season Doar was named to the 1A All-State team by the SCHSL and HSSR. Doar was also named to the All-Area team by the Spartanburg Herald Journal. As a senior and his team with a 7-2 record currently Doar continues his strong play.

We caught up with Doar recently to talk about his senior season and recruitment currently.

After his first 8 games Doar says he averaged 34.6 yards per punt with a long of 48 yards so far. Last year as a junior he averaged 39 yards per punt and had a career long of 70 yards.

Having a great deal of success last season Doar talked about what areas of his game as a punter that he worked on a great deal this offseason. He also talked about the strengths of his game as a whole right now.

"This offseason I mostly worked on my hang time and the height of the ball in my punts. I feel that I do my best when put in tough situations in my punting game. I was not expecting to be the kicker this year, but the previous to-be kicker decided not to play. So I had to take on the kicking responsibilities as well as punting. Now, my kicking game has become a strong point in my game."

His success on the field already has a number of schools in the mix and he shared those schools with us.

"Right now I'm hearing from Western Carolina University, Presbyterian College, Campbell University, Marietta College (OH), and DePauw University (IN). I'd say that Western Carolina, Presbyterian, and Campbell are recruiting me the hardest out of those schools."

Doar has hit the camp circuit throughout his career and shared some of those stops and experiences with us.

I've attended Carol White's Punting and Kicking Camp at Coastal Carolina in 2009 and again in 2010 at Appalachian State. I also Clemson's Football Camp this summer. I was ranked 5th among all punters that participated in Top Recruit Kicking camp sessions throughout the summer. Chris McInally, a member of Toprecruitkicking, Inc, was the instructor at the Clemson Camp."

Academically is another area where the 2011 prospect shines also as he reports a 4.5 GPA and a 25 on the ACT. He says he'll be weighing education the heaviest when looking at potential schools. He says he will also weigh the location, atmosphere of the campus, and the coaching staff significantly as well.

Below you can check out a chart of Doar's testing done at Clemson's camp.
