The Irmo senior got the good news and he told us exactly how he felt when he got the news.
"It felt good. I've been putting in a lot of work to get where I'm at. There's still a lot of more work to be put in, and I'm just glad to be able to represent Irmo football and all the Irmo coaches who have helped made me who I am."
Told that many players enter the week of Shrine Bowl practice and see their recruiting stock blow up we asked Counts if that possiblity could delay his pending decision?
"The Shrine Bowl will be a good expierence. I don't know about that yet, we will see."
Right now Counts says he's still hearing from Applachian State, Western Carolina, North Carolina Central, Miami of Ohio, PC, and East Carolina. He expects things to pick up with his announcement to the Shrine Bowl team though.
Irmo has their final game of the regular season tomorrow night and we asked Counts what he expected from his squad heading towards the playoffs.
"Our mentality is to come out play good hard football. To get better as a team and just win. Heading into the playoffs we just want to stay healthy and turn our game up to another level for the playoffs because we've got a chance to do some bigs thing and we want it bad."
Switching gears back to the Shrine Bowl Counts talked about his outlook for the experience that it will entail.
"Yes sir, I'm looking forward to it. It's going to be fun to meet new people and see some of the best players in South Carolina and play with them. I know me and David Frazier are going to have fun and do our thing. I'm glad to have him there with me because we been playing with each other since 8th grade year, and its good to have a person who knows you good to come along with you."
Was making the Shrine Bowl something that Counts had envisioned during his years playing for Irmo?
"I thought about it earlier on when i first starting playing ball for Irmo, and I talked about wanting to make it my senior year but I never thought it was going to happen. Luckily I've been blessed by God through the years and worked hard and took advantage of every opportunity I had to get better."
Will Counts demeanor or thought process change once Shrine Bowl week gets here?
"No Sir. I'm just going to keep doing what I've been doing which is playing hard every snap, practice hard, have a good work ethic, and stay humble."
