The recruitment of 2012 DE Gimel President of Wando High School has been on fire since we first introduced him to you a little over 6 months ago. President was on the radar for a few schools and in that span of time has gathered 5 verbal offers. We projected him as one of the state's top prospects in 2012 and so far he's proving the projection to hold true. We caught up with President recently for an update as his most recent offer came from the SEC.
Tennessee is the latest school to verbally offer President joining the likes of Maryland, North Carolina, North Carolina State, and South Carolina. Having gained early offers President talked about how those early offers affect his thoughts concerning those showing him the early love.
"Yes, the schools that have offered me early would have an early advantage."
President recently took a visit to one of the schools that verbally offered him early on and he talked about his time there and what his thoughts about the visit.
"During my visit to North Carolina, the fan support was outstanding. In my opinion, the Ram's Club is doing a lot of building to make the campus one of the best around. I also enjoyed seeing the football hall of fame of the past football players."
With his most recent offer coming from Tennessee President offered up his thoughts about the Volunteers and how long he's been hearing from the staff.
"Tennessee has been sending me correspondences since September. When it comes to the Volunteers they are a hard nose football team and have of the largest football stadiums in the country which are things that I really like about them."
The Volunteers and the other schools who have offered are already heavily in the mix for President but there are other schools who have stepped up their recruitment of the Wando stud as of late he says.
President says its too early to name favorites but reaffirmed that those who have offered already stand out for him obviously.
He feels that Alabama and Auburn very well could be the next schools to extend him an offer from the amount of mail and feedback he's gotten from both schools. Schools that he's hoping to hear more from in the near future are Virginia and Virginia Tech.
His junior season statistics were extremely impressive given the amount of attention that was given to him by opposing teams. President had 83 tackles, 37 solo tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 9 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 interception.
A great work ethic during a strong offseason helped President obtain the big time numbers despite facing numerous double teams and cut blocks. He talked about what areas of his game improved the most since the end of his sophomore season until now.
"My hand speed, my footwork, and my lateral movement probably. I also improved my understanding of how to read offensive players' hand position for run and pass plays. Also through film study in general."
President says he'll be active again this offseason as his first planned stop is to participate in the Under Armour combine in January. After that there is only one definite visit that he already knows he'll be making thus far.
"Tennessee is one that I would like to visit. I have visited all the other schools so far that have offered. So Tennessee will be one of the schools that I would visit this offseason."
