Like his good friend and former Daniel High teammate DeAndre "Nuke" Hopkins, Shaquille Lawson has a nickname that is well known around the Central community. "Shaq" has been a prominent force for the Lions on the football field and basketball court for the past few seasons as the Lions have enjoyed a great deal of success in both sports. Lawson sat down with SCPrepNation.com briefly to talk about the state of his recruitment right now and hinted as to when he'd like to make a decision if possible.
Checking in now at a more than ready 6'4 240 pounds Lawson has been a thorn in the sides of Daniel High opponents for the past 3 seasons. This past season Lawson continued to punish opposing offenses as he compiled a highly impressive stat line.
"My stats this past season were 100 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, and two touchdowns," Lawson told us.
An early season matchup with an opponent of similar size and a prominent name provided Lawson with what he called his best game of the season.
"The South Pointe game was my best of the season. I got to tackle and lock up with Jadeveon Clowney, the number one prospect in the country a couple times. I had 13 tackles in that game."
Currently Lawson says he holds no offers to this point but the 3-star prospect told us which schools he's hearing from currently. He also shared with us which schools he feels may be on the verge of pulling the trigger with offers as well.
"I'm hearing from North Carolina State, East Carolina, Clemson, Georgia Tech, and Duke. Clemson and East Carolina are recruiting me hardest I'd say. As for schools that I think may be close to offering I'd say North Carolina State and Clemson may be close."
Lawson has already visited both Clemson and North Carolina State and told us what he liked most about each program.
"I've visited Clemson and I like how a lot of people get a chance to play there. I've also visited NC State and I liked their campus a lot. I want to visit ECU, Georgia Tech, and Duke soon too."
The 2012 stud says he'll visit Clemson for Junior Day and plans on camping with the Tigers and Wolfpack this offseason.
Lawson talked about what it is exactly that he'll be looking at closely when making his decision for college and when exactly he'd like to make a commitment if given the opportunity.
"I'm looking for somewhere that I can get a good education and that has a good coaching staff. I would really like to commit early."
That being said, expect schools to start speeding up their evaluation and recruiting processes when it comes to Lawson in hopes of landing an early verbal commitment.
