Numbers, numbers, numbers, and more numbers. It's what many college coaches and recruiting analysts sift through and utilize to gauge prospects. Whether it be statistics on the field or testing numbers in a combine setting, the numbers, in the eyes of most don't lie. We've been singing the praises of 2012 Hanahan WR Chris Brown for quite some time now and after another strong season Brown has seen his recruitment start to take off. He recently landed his first scholarship offer from Cincinnati and is hearing from a number of other high major programs.
This past weekend Brown hit the road and headed further south away from Hanahan to check out an SEC school and participate in the Under Armour combine in Miami this weekend. The 2012 prospect took Miami by storm and posted some ridiculous testing numbers early on in the offseason.
"I just got done at the Under Armour combine in Miami. I had a good day. I had a 7.06 second L-cone drill time, bench pressed 185 pounds seven times, had a 17 foot power ball, a 4.48 second short shuttle, 33 1/2 inch vertical, 10'2" broad jump, a 52 second 300 yard shuttle, and a 4.44 laser timed 40 yard dash. In the one on ones I was 5 of 6 all press coverage and in the 7 on 7's I was 4 of 4," Brown told us.
"Overall I had the best broad jump (10'2") and vertical (33 1/2") at the event. I had the 3rd best 40 time (4.44 seconds) too. Out of the entire combine I was first among wide receivers and fourth overall for all positions with their scoring system."
The scary part is that Brown will undoubtedly improve his numbers as the spring and summer get here with warmer weather and more training.
Brown checked out the University of Florida for their Junior day activities and will talk more at length with SCPrepNation.com later this evening about his trip to check out the Gators. He said he spent time with and spoke a good deal with fellow 2012 in-state prospect DE Gimel President of Wando High as well as another prospect from James Island Charter High School.
