The latest update from one of SC Pigskin Prep's Top Players as the recruiting war heats up for the preseason all state defensive star.
Chris has been hearing from most of the Division 1 schools from the southeast. South Carolina has shown the most interest with Virginia coming in second. In the past few weeks he has received hand written letters from Maryland and Kentucky, as well as South Carolina and Virginia.
Michigan, Duke and Penn State have also started to recruit McDowell. Last Saturday he attended the South Carolina spring game with his mother and with fellow Eastside Eagles Jason Leventis and Chris Stone. According to Chris and his family, he had a great time at the game with his family and friends. He came away very impressed with the school facilties and coaching staff at South Carolina and the Gamecocks have emerged as his clear leader. Chris is hopeful that he will have the opportunity to meet again with the South Carolina coaches to discuss his future collegiate plans. He is looking forward to what South Carolina offers both academically and athletically.
Chris is on spring break this week and will visit the campus of Virginia, Virginia Tech and Maryland.
Chris carries a perfect 4.0 GPA and plans to major in Medicine. He hopes to attend medical school following graduation and pursue a career in medicine.
South Carolina , Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee, Auburn, Air Force, ECU, Wake Forrest, Nebraska, Colorado, Penn State, NC State, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, Duke, have all written and contacted Chris. He is also hearing from Ivy League schools; Princeton, Dartmouth and Harvard and Yale.
Chris may potentially make an early commitment if he receives an offer that matches his career goals both on the football field and in the classroom.
Chris and the Eastside Eagles open the 2003 campaign at home against Clinton on August 29th. A potentially huge match up with the Greenville Red Raiders will occur on October 10th
