2012 QB Gibson Klapthor has been putting in work this off season and his efforts won't go unnoticed moving forward in the recruiting process. The 6'3 215 pound prospect had a strong junior season and also had a 99.24 SPARQ rating at the Nike Combine in Charlotte recently. Expect more colleges to come calling on Klapthor and that's the reason he's the latest to be feature in our "UP NEXT series.

Gibson Klapthor Profile

The off season is a time where the cream of the crop steps their game up and one prospect who is bent on making waves in the 2012 class is Wilson Hall quarterback Gibson Klapthor. The talented junior prospect had a solid junior campaign but wasn't content on sitting idle, so Klapthor has been working out vigorously this off season in order to showcase his talents for more colleges to become full aware of. A recent performance in Charlotte is one of the reasons why Klapthor is the latest prospect to be featured in our "UP NEXT" series.

Earlier this month Klapthor made the journey up to Charlotte North Carolina to participate in the Nike Combine. Top prospects from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia totaling over 1,100 prospects in all participated. Klapthor emerged as the top scoring South Carolina prospect in attendance with a 99.24 SPARQ rating. We talked with Klapthor about his thoughts after the event.

"I worked out hard this winter, and before the combine I practiced the different events a few times. I was a little bit surprised with how well I did. I was disappointed in my 40 time, but overall I exceeded my expectations." Klapthor told us.

So how did his performance make him feel after going up against some of the very best in the Carolinas and Virginia?

"It's good to know from a confidence standpoint that I matched up pretty evenly with some top prospects."

That success shouldn't come as a total surprise as Klapthor and his Wilson Hall squad enjoyed a solid season on the gridiron.

"Last year I passed for 1,247 yards and 12 touchdowns. I also rushed for 921 yards and 17 touchdowns. Our record was 9-4 and we were state semifinalists."

Looking back on his junior season we asked Klapthor what game in particular stood out to him as his very best and he replied, "My best game was probably against Laurence Manning Academy in the state quarterfinals. They are one of our biggest rivals, and we had to play them two weeks in row, beating them both times. In the second meeting, I completed 14 of 17 passes for 293 yards and 3 touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown too."

What makes Gibson such an intriguing prospect is that he's got good size at 6'3 215 pounds. Some in-state programs have already started the recruiting process as well as some Ivy League programs he says. The 2012 prospect hopes he continues his upward trend and starts to see his mailbox full of mail from more schools.

"I've heard from Wofford, Furman, and all the Ivy League schools. I haven't received a whole lot of interest from any bigger schools so far, but I hope to after getting some more exposure."

Thus far Klapthor has just visited Wofford. He said he enjoyed the visit and that their small college quality makes it similar to his high school.

Right now Klapthor feels his size and athleticism are his biggest assets on the field right now. That versatility he says has some schools looking at tight end as a possibility on the next level. Regardless he knows what aspects of his game he's going to continue working on this off season.

"I'm going to work on my mechanics at the quarterback position and also my strength and speed."

The 2012 prospect is a standout in the classroom obviously with Ivy League programs already recruiting him. He reports a 4.125 GPA as well as a 1340 on the SAT and 31 on the ACT. His overall efforts in the classroom landed him the 2010 Wilson Hall Fall Male Athlete Highest GPA Award.

Klapthor says he'll continue to hit the combine circuit this off season in order to showcase his talents even more so expect him to make more noise.
