Things have picked up quite a bit for 2012 Travelers Rest High LB Chris Atkins lately. Schools have been flooding him with mail and calls and we caught up with Atkins to talk about it all.
One Ivy League program touched basis with Atkins a while back and the talented linebacker prospect shared what the coach told him.
"Brown University coach Archer left me a message on my cell phone saying that he was able to look at my film. He said I moved great for a big guy and that he really liked my film. I wasn't able to answer his call because I was in practice but I returned his call and left him a message."
Atkins says that both Furman and Charleston Southern have been by during spring practice. Wanting to take his game to the next level Atkins talked about what he's been doing in an effort to get there.
"I've been working hard in the weight room because I want to be able to translate that hard work onto the field this fall."
So what have things looked like so far for the Devildogs during the spring?
"Spring practice has been going pretty good so far. It seems like we're moving along smoothly and everybody is working hard."
"I can't wait to get on the field this fall. It ate me up have to sit on the sideline and watch my team struggle last year. This year I will make sure to stay healthy and dominate the other team every week. I plan on making 100+ tackles this fall."
The slate will be busy this off season for Atkins too as he'll be at various camps this off season.
"I will be attending to a Nike Training Camp that I was invited to at Duke on May 22. June 11th I'll be at the Shrine Bowl combine at Blythewood High. On the 15th South Carolina's Camp and on the 18th Georgia Tech's. I was also invited to the Citadel on June 5 I think it was and I think I may be going to Coastal Carolina's junior day."
Another area that Atkins remains busy and truly shines is in the classroom. He gave us an update about his recent SAT and ACT scores.
"On the SAT I scored 560 Reading, 610 Math, 480 Writing or 1170 M+R. So a 1650 altogether. On the ACT I scored a 25. I plan on improving both scores next spring though."
