Larry Wideman Profile

It was a great weekend for 2012 Green Sea Floyds High shooting guard Larry Wideman. He camped with one North Carolina school and in the process picked up two more offers to bring his total to three now. We spoke with Wideman about his big weekend and more recently.

The 6'4 shooting guard spent the weekend camping with Western Carolina and he talked about his time there working out in front of the staff.

"I believe I performed very well. I gave them what they wanted," Wideman said.

So was he surprised when the Catamounts decided his body of work was impressive enough to extend an offer?

"It kind of caught me off guard, but I know that I was playing well so I could kind of see why they offered me."

"I got to see parts of their campus and I got to see the cafeteria. The best thing I liked about WCU was their gym. It was pretty nice!"

Wideman got another call over the weekend from another North Carolina school with additional good news.

"I got offered by High Point University. I did not camp with them. I only camped with Western Carolina this month in June."

Wideman makes no bones about how picking up his second and third offer makes him feel either.

"It feels good and I'm excited about them wanting me to become part of their programs. It definitely motivates me even though I'm already self motivated to get better everyday."

Many schools have seen Wideman put in work with his AAU team, Team TMP, on the the summer circuit and he talked about some of the tournaments his team has participated in thus far.

"We have recently played in Big Shots, Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions, The TMP Invitaional, and the Columbia state tournament."

So what have college coaches been saying they like most about the 2012 prospect's game?

"College coaches usually say they love my jump shot and my three ball. They also say they like the way I play defense, attack the basket, and share the basketball."

His play on the high school level last season earned him plenty of recognition too. Some of the honors he earned were being named All-State, Highest GPA on the team, Hoop Star Athlete of the Week, nominated for Hoop Star Athlete of the Year, and being named to The Toast of the Coast Team.

Wideman is a gym rat who gets to the gym everyday to put up hundreds and hundreds of shots and work on other aspects of his game. Schools have been taking notice of his skill set on the court and his diligence in the classroom which has plenty of suitors eyeing him as a true asset to their program. Schools like South Carolina, Winthrop, Yale, Clemson, Gardner Webb, College of Charleston, Jacksonville University, and TCU are all currently in the loop.
