Standing 6'0 225 pounds 2012 linebacker Shaquan Burney already holds one scholarship offer. The Boiling Springs prospect is looking to add more to his resume and we give you the inside scoop for FREE in this premium update as he's the latest prospect to be featured in our "UP NEXT" series.

Shaquan Burney Profile

To say Shaquan Burney's junior season was a success would be putting it lightly. He amassed some big time numbers for coach Bruce Clark's team. His play has already sent schools scrambling and earned him his first scholarship offer. The 6'0 225 pound linebacker sat down with SCPrepNation.com recently as he's the latest player to be featured in our "UP NEXT" series.

So far Burney says Shaw University, Furman, Georgia Southern, South Carolina State, and Coastal Carolina have been in the recruiting fold thus far for him. A pair of those schools are pressing him the hardest though he says.

"Out of those schools Furman and South Carolina State are recruiting me the hardest."

"Shaw University has offered me a scholarship already," Burney said.

Still relatively new to the recruiting process Burney says he hasn't visited any schools but he's hoping that will change in the very near future. Early on he says he's established a strong relationship with college coaches at Furman and South Carolina State.

"I will be camping with Furman and Georgia Southern soon."

Burney's junior season saw him post some strong numbers and that's the very reason so many schools are making early inquiries about him.

"I had 96 tackles, 7 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and one interception last year."

One opponent really stood out to Burney as his toughest opponent last season. It's a name that has been echoed by multiple defensive prospects we've talked with and came up once again.

Patrick Destefano from Dorman! He was a tough matchup because he is 6'6 270 and can really get after it!"

Burney says he wants to hear from more regional and in-state schools as well as East Carolina and Chattanooga. That being said one important factor will play a big role in his decision making process he says.

"Being close to home so my parents can watch me play."

So being fairly close to home will play a role in his recruitment but does Burney have a timeframe as to when he may end the process?

I may commit early if the right offer comes."

With camps slated in the near future we'll have more updates with Burney as he looks to add more offers to his resume.
