Spartanburg High was host to the Southern Classic 7 on 7 tournament and teams from all over convened at the home of the Vikings.
With top teams from various states in the mix events such as this one usually provides plenty of experience for junior and seniors to prepare for the upcoming season. A few elite underclassmen find their way on the field with playing time and with Byrnes fielding two teams (A & B) they generally get some of those underclassmen plenty of reps with with their "B Team".
The experience has helped Byrnes win plenty of state championships over the past decade but one underclassman found his way playing with Byrnes A squad. In fact, Tavin Richardson just finished up his 8th grade year at D.R. Hill Middle School.
The 6'3 195 pound wideout was surprised to find out he would be playing with the first stringers but he performed like he belonged there en route to an All-Tournament selection.
Talking with Richardson and some of his family members the plan is for him to attend some college camps and get the ball rolling early with his recruitment. Schools have already invited him to various camps at Clemson and South Carolina. Being so new and early in the process Richardson is open to everyone but we'll be sure to keep you in the mix once he starts to pick up more interest and decides on some early favorites when the time comes.
