Quickly emerging as one of the state's hottest commodities 2012 Hanahan wide receiver Chris Brown traveled down to Florida last week to participate in the Gators' Friday Night Lights event. We talked with Brown right after the event and got the inside scoop on how he felt he performed for the staff.
"It was real fun, I had a good time under the lights," Brown said.
Going through drills and testing with the Gators Brown says he did well in various areas and he talked about them with us.
"I think I did the best at the one on ones. I felt I did pretty well against the physical and speedy guys that Florida is supposed to have."
Brown says he placed second in the fastest man competition, placed second in the broad jump, caught a pair of nice touchdown catches, and had no drops during FNL activities.
The Gators coaches apparently liked what they saw from Brown too he says.
"Coach had a couple laughs with my dad and stuff. He was talking about how I came in and did very well. He's going to go back and look at the tape for areas of the camp he couldn't see me and to call him on Monday. He said he really liked my explosion, ability to beat jams, and flat out speed as a deep vertical threat."
Brown had this to say about the looming call on Monday.
"I mean I hope they do offer me Monday. I had a good camp and the coaches noticed so it will all play it self out."
The 2012 prospect says he has a top 3 consisting of Virginia Tech, South Carolina, and Cincinnati right now. An offer from Florida may change that possibly. He says that Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Cincinnati, and South Carolina are recruiting him the hardest here lately.
South Carolina assistant coach Lorenzo Ward has seen Brown and apparently sees him as an NFL cornerback possibly on down the road. Does a position change bother Brown and his thought process about where schools want to play him at?
"I would consider changing, but they say I can come in as a wide out and I feel I'm better at wide out so as long as i get a chance to showcase myself at wide out. If they eventually moved me to DB I wouldn't have a problem with that."
One of Brown's closest friends, 2013 Goose Creek WR/CB Tramel Terry, recently committed to Georgia. The two have an almost brother type relationship and Brown shared his thoughts about Terry's decision to play for Georgia.
"It surprised me a little, but I know he kind of liked Georgia so I was happy for him. Especially with him being like a brother to me."
Terry also has many analysts and coaches liking him at cornerback on the next level. Have the two talked about playing at corner before?
"I mean both of us feel we are athletes that could play either, so we both work as hard at defensive back as wide receiver."
The other area where Brown really excels is on the track where he's a state champion and state record holder in the triple jump shattering a record that stood for 30 years. Wanting to compete in both sports will a school's track program get heavy consideration in his decision?
"Yeah I do look at how well each school's track program is, but ultimately I would go to a school with a better football program and compete in track."
Brown's explosion in the recruiting world has seen him grow into to a heavily coveted one from multiple national programs. He talked about his thoughts about blowing up in a matter of months nationally.
"(Laughs) It's alright. I feel I put in a lot of hard work and I'm reaping some of the benefits of it now, but at the same time I know I can be way better so I have keep working harder to stay on top of my game."
So does the ultra talented prospect have a timeframe for making a decision for college yet?
"I don't really have a time frame. I kinda would like to take some officials first but I don't know really."
Brown is set to call Florida today and we'll have the news after he speaks with the Gators later on today so keep it locked right here.
