Video/Update: 2012 Abbeville CB Reggie Thomas

"Student-athlete" is a term often used when it comes to recruiting. It's not often though that you find a true "student-athlete" who excels in both arenas. 2012 Abbeville CB Reggie Thomas is one of those few exceptions as he's a top prospect on the field and in the classroom. Inside check out scrimmage highlights and we talk with Thomas about his offers and recruitment.

Reggie Thomas Profile

Check out video highlights below of 2012 Abbeville cornerback Reggie Thomas as his Panthers took on Woodruff in a recent scrimmage. Thomas and the Panthers are the defending A state champions while Woodruff was also one of the state's best AA schools and those teams are expected to be contending for titles again this year. (During this scrimmage Thomas played primarily at safety, #10.)

It was the first scrimmage for Thomas and the Panthers and he gave us his thoughts about the team's first outing after winning a state title last year.

"For it to be our first scrimmage I think we played alright. We still have a lot of work to do on both sides of the ball. But give credit to Woodruff, they're a very good team. I think they'll go a long way in AA."

Woodruff's high powered offense provided a good challenge for Thomas and his team and he talked about one of the Wolverine's young stars, 2014 WR Blake Bone, and their upcoming scrimmages.

"Yes sir it did provide us with a great opportunity to work and get better. It gave us a good chance to see what we are going to be going up against playing Greenwood and Chester."

"Yeah he's (Bone) a pretty good athlete. I didnt play cornerback any so I was mainly flying around hitting people."

"It ended in a tie, 7 to 7. I wish we could've continued to play though."

Thomas already holds a pair of offers from Newberry and Wofford and he's got a ton of other showing interest currently. There are some others out there that he wants to hear more from in the near future he says. With a 4.095 GPA in the classroom is thinking beyond just football but preparing for life after playing the sport he loves as well.

"I'd like to hear more from Duke, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Toledo, and South Carolina. I wouldn't mind hearing from Appalachian State as well."

Since he's got such a strong academic history colleges have been showering him with attention for his work in the classroom as well. He says Vanderbilt sent him a letter regarding his academic prowess recently.

"I received a letter from Vanderbilt last week and it was just telling me they wanted me to apply to their school."

Thomas is hoping that he'll get a look from some of the D1 schools with high academic standards and from the looks of his early senior season scrimmage footage it is well warranted.

We'll have more updates and video of Thomas in action as they'll soon play the AAAA Greenwood Eagles in a scrimmage. The Eagles are coming off a loss in the AAAA Division 2 state championship game last year and return many of their top prospects so it will be interesting to see how well the 1A Panthers stack up with the Eagles.
