The big guys in the trenches never really get the love they deserve it seems. One prospect who is working hard to attract more interest is 2012 Columbia High DE/OL Devonte Graham. Graham and the Capitals had a stiff test against Lower Richland in Week 0 but they emerged with a convincing 31-14 victory.
We caught up with the 6'5 250 pound Graham after the game to talk about how things played out for him during the first game of his senior season.
"I started out kinda slow but when we hit the second half I picked it up because making the transition to offensive line is not too easy but I had 4 pancake blocks."
Most schools are recruiting Graham as a defensive end and he says he only played in just a few drives on defense but played the entire game up front on offense.
"I had 5 tackles,2 tackles for loss, half a sack, and I only played two drives on defense the whole game."
Being versatile is something Graham says he's willing to do in order to help the Capitals this season and he talked about how he felt he performed on both sides of the ball.
"I feel I can do better on offensive line but with defensive line I was happy with how I played."
Was Graham surprised at how well the Capitals handled Lower Richland?
"Not one bit. We have play makers and weapons and if we can get the run game together we will be unstoppable."
This coming week in preparation for Graham says he'll continue to work on all facets of his game but there is one area he'll pay close attention in practice.
"My pass blocking and protection is all I really want to improve before next Friday's game."
For now Graham says his goal is clear moving forward with his senior season.
"I will have a ring this year!"
SCPrepNation.com will continue to track Devonte Graham's progress as his senior season rolls on so stay tuned!
