The Gaffney Indians sit atop the AAAA rankings as the #1 team in the state and are currently ranked #42 in the nation according to the Scout.com Top 50. Their most well-known offensive weapon, wide receiver Quinshad Davis, isn't their only option on the perimeter for the Indians. Sophomore Shaquille Davidson has been tremendously productive in the early going and as a result he's seen his stock take off. Scout.com spoke to Davidson about his season thus far and early recruitment.
Davidson has been an excellent compliment to the tall and phyiscal Davis for coach Dan Jones' Indians. In fact, Davidson credits Davis for helping him be so productive.
"I try to play my role and I try to take some of the heat off Quinshad because they try to double and triple team him," Davidson said.
One of the Indians' toughest opponents, Greenwood, provided Davidson the opportunity to showcase his talents to the fullest.
"The Greenwood game was my best game so far. I had 6 catches for 196 yards and I set a school or state record with a 99 yard touchdown catch. I ended the game with 2 touchdowns."
His talents haven't gone unnoticed as both in-state powers have already started the recruiting process. Davidson visited Clemson last Saturday as they defeated Auburn and he got some good news from the Gamecocks on Monday.
"I got my first offer from South Carolina. Steve Spurrier Jr. offered me. They are recruiting me as a wide receiver and kick returner."
The 2014 prospect says he likes the Gamecocks for multiple reasons.
"They have a great football program and a good atmosphere."
Still early in the recruiting process Davidson says he'll look at various factors when analyzing where he'd like to go to college. Football isn't the only option for the 2014 prospect either as he's a standout basketball prospect too.
"I'll look at getting a good education, early playing time, coaching staff, graduation rates, atmosphere, and facilities most when choosing a college."
Through 4 games this year Davidson has 14 receptions for 378 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also has returned a kickoff for a touchdown.
Stay tuned to Scout.com as we'll have more updates with Davidson as he has quickly emerged as one of the top 2014 wide receiver prospects here in the Palmetto State.
