The Gaffney Indians continue to steamroll the competition and their #1 ranking is well deserved. Their offense has been extremely potent and first year starter Joey Copeland assumed the controls at quarterback this year. His work so far has earned the Indians their #1 ranking and national ranking anywhere from #3 to #10 in different polls. This past Thursday Copeland earned arguably one of the state's most prestigious honors in being named to the South Carolina Shrine Bowl team.
Last night we watched Copeland completely dazzle the audience at Rock Hill as he powered the Indians to a 72-13 win. The recent naming to the Shrine Bowl squad didn't go to his head as he was 17-24 for 371 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also showed off his wheels rushing 10 times for 103 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground.
The most puzzling thing is that thus far Copeland says he's only heard from just one school so far.
"I've only heard from South Carolina State so far. I've been there for a visit too."
Copeland may not be the prototype sized signal caller but his numbers are undeniable. FCS programs should honestly take another look at Copeland because despite some mechanical issues with his throwing motion it's something that can be tweaked if necessary.
We'll have senior season film of Copeland soon so stay tuned to see the Shrine Bowl selection here on Scout.com!
