Woodruff OL Caleb Smith commits to G-W

We had him rated as one of the state's most underrated prospects this year and 2012 Woodruff OL Caleb Smith decided recently it was time to announce his commitment. Come inside as Smith talks about his season thus far and what he likes most about Gardner-Webb.

Caleb Smith Profile

As one of the state's strongest linemen Woodruff's Caleb Smith has enjoyed punishing the opposition for his team. Currently in the AA playoffs Smith and the Wolverines were tested last night against Newberry but emerged victorious. The Wolverines went through the regular season undefeated and received a first round bye last week before starting their AA playoff quest last night.

Smith was instrumental again last night against Newberry but earlier in the week he committed to Gardner-Webb. We spoke with Smith at length about his commitment and more.

"The one thing that stuck into my head about Gardner Webb was that all of the coaches treated me like family. Every coach knows me personally and I believe that if anything goes wrong they will be there to help no matter what!"

Asked if going ahead and giving his commitment took some weight off his shoulders Smith responded, "It definitely feels like a weight has been lifted off my chest. It also helps me to know that no matter what I will always have a home at GWU!"

Smith's talent didn't go unnoticed as he was recently named to the North-South All Star game in Myrtle Beach. Having been named to the North squad confirmed some things for Smith.

"When I found out I had made North-South it made me realize that all the work I have put in throughout my years I could finally show."

Smith says he'll go into the all-star even to represent for his Woodruff team the best way he can and show off his maroon and gold colors.

Prior to entering the playoff battle last night against Newberry Smith had the right frame of mind heading into the playoffs.

"The playoffs are where the season really counts, everything else was just preparation leading up to this point. If you lose its over...so you better play like every play is your last cause it can end at any moment."

Other schools have still continued to court Smith despite his commitment to Gardner Webb and he told us that he'll listen to what they have to say but that he's very comfortable with his verbal commitment to the North Carolina school.
