Shrine Bowl: OL Jonathan McLaughlin

The Shrine Bowl series rolls on and we caught up with Mauldin offensive lineman Jonathan McLaughlin in our most recent interview. With a number of offers on the table and others possibly coming his way McLaughlin talks about recruiting and his thoughts leading up to this year's Shrine Bowl game against the North Carolina squad.

Jonathan McLaughlin Profile

The Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas will take place December 17th and has been bringing you updates with players from the South Carolina team over the past month. The latest Sandlapper player we caught up with is Mauldin offensive lineman Jonathan McLaughlin and he gave us the very latest regarding his selection to the team and an update about his recruitment.

Apparently simply hearing that he was selected to this year's South Carolina Shrine Bowl team didn't sink the accomplishment in for McLaughlin at first.

"It didn't hit me until I saw the list. Then I was very excited to be picked for the team."

Making the team is something the 6'5 280 pound prospect thought about from time to time as his selection gives Mauldin three prospects to play in the game in as many years now.

"Yes with Taylor Hudson and Ryan Norton making it the past two years it made me want to be the next one from Mauldin to be on the team."

Many prospects go into the game unaware of what all the Shriners are all about but not McLaughlin.

"Yes I am familiar with them and how they have helped many kids over the years."

The Mauldin standout says he simply wants go compete and have fun in this year's game which is being held at Wofford College. When asked if there were any players that he really wanted to get to know better during the week of the event he replied, "I know a lot of players on the team already. So I'll be trying to get to know mostly people that I don't know."

McLaughlin says he was satisfied with his play during his senior season and even recapped what he felt was his most outstanding performance of the year.

"My biggest game was against J.L Mann. Even though we lost, we ran a lot of counter plays and I was able to get up field with our running back."

Right now McLaughlin is still in the midst of his recruitment and he already has some solid offers on the table and may be picking up a few late in the process as well.

"Right now I've got offers from Wake Forest, ECU, Marshall, and FIU."

He says that those schools are his leaders being that he's already secured offers from them. The Shrine Bowl selection took a visit to North Carolina State recently and he talked a little bit about what he liked about his time in Raleigh.

"Yeah that experience was one of the best visits this year. The whole day was just a good time for me."

Although the Wolfpack haven't offered the staff is in the process of deciding whether or not they will extend the Mauldin standout an offer.

"They wanted some senior film on me so I got a chance to get them some and hopefully they like it and will offer me."

Don't expect McLaughlin to wait until National Signing Day either.

"I will commit earlier than National Signing Day for sure but not exactly sure when."
