Woodmont cornerback Jawanza Adams may only be a sophomore but he's had 2 seasons as a starter for the Wildcats. The 5'10 172 pound prospect has been productive during that time but it's his hunger to take his game to another level that we've seen since last season. Adams has the tools to become one of the state's top 2014 prospects if he continues his upward trend, that's why he's "UP NEXT" with SCPrepNation.com!
Adams is coming off a solid sophomore season and he talked about the numbers he posted with us.
"I had 43 total tackles, 31 solo tackles, 4 pass breakups, and 2 interceptions."
That hunger we mentioned earlier is easily detected when we talked with Adams about what his off season has consisted of so far and what his plans are moving forward.
"I've been working really hard on my game both mentally and physically this off season. Watching film and seeing different tendencies the receiver does and working on my overall technique like my backpedal and my hands."
The 2014 prospect although an underclassman currently spoke about what mentality his team will have next season and what goals they've set.
"Our goal as a team next year is based on changing our attitude and outlook on the game of football and in the weight room and having the mindset that we can't be beat stepping on the field."
"My main personal goal which I didn't achieve last year is to make 1st team all-region and catch at least 7 picks. I've always been told dream big and dream in color, and I think it's pretty achievable."
Adams says there are some other schools out there that he's looking forward to hearing from soon also.
North Carolina was the first school to send Adams mail so he's been reading up on the Tar Heels and their program.
Adams has made strides in the weight room since last season as he reports a bench press max of 225 pounds and a 365 pound squat. Another area that he excels is with his speed. To date his fastest 40 time is 4.56 seconds but he hasn't run one since the end of the season due to a PCL injury he suffered late.
He also does his best in the classroom to shine there reporting a 3.195 GPA currently. He's not satisfied with area and will continue to make strides there as well he informed us. He mentioned being part of the Duke TIP program back in the 7th grade and the fact that his father talks about "Duke and Stanford" as to what those programs can offer him academically on top of football.
