Tre Smith Profile

You have probably heard the stories before, college coach goes to watch a prospect and leaves the gym highly interested in another prospect as well. That appears to be the case with 2013 Hillcrest High shooting guard Tre Smith. That's part of the reason why Smith is featured in our "Stock Risers" series.

Playing for the Hillcrest Rams Smith has always been a solid prospect over the past two seasons. At times he's been overshadowed by former teammate Dante Buford and current teammate D.J. Brooks. No slight to either of those guys at all but Smith has seen his game elevate as well as his stock.

We've conversated with multiple college coaches who come away highly impressed with Smith's game and progression.

We caught up with Smith to talk about his recruitment and more moving forward. He talked about the schools he's heard from and schools he's visited thus far.

"Early on I've heard from Presbyterian, Elon, USC-Upstate, Clemson, and Radford."

"I visited USC-Upstate. I liked their basketball program and the coaches were really nice. They have a good academic program."

"I also attended Elon's Elite Camp. It gave me an good feeling of what I'm expected to do on the college level."

"I went to Elite Camp at Clemson University and it showed me that the little things can make a big difference on the court."

Playing AAU ball with the Carolina Hurricanes the has fueled Smith's play during the high school season with the aforementioned progression in his game and skills.

"I developed into a stronger player with more consistency, confidence, and leadership on the court."

He talked about the strong points of his game right now.

"My biggest strengths on the court are getting to the rack, finishing with contact, being a team player, and a leader."

Smith has been working on his ballhandling and jump shot. Many schools envision him possibly as a combo guard who can primarily play the two but can also provide some relief at the point if need be. will have more updates with Smith soon so keep it right here for more!
