Currently on the road since school let out a week or so ago 2013 offensive lineman Austin Turner of Lexington High School is hoping to impress and be impressed by colleges and college coaches. The 6'3 290 pound prospect has seen his stock rise in the past few months and colleges are starting to show serious interest in him. That's exactly why Turner is "UP NEXT" with SCPrepNation.com!

This year as a junior Turner enjoyed a successful campaign for the Wildcats of Lexington. He shared with us some of his numbers and averages.

"I finished my junior year with a average grade of 91% and a total of 31 pancakes."

Turner and the Wildcats saw plenty of tough competition in the AAAA ranks but one game in particular stood out to the 2013 prospect as his very best. It proved to be a thriller for the players and fans in attendance.

The North Augusta game was my best where I graded out at 94% with 6 pancakes. It was the conference game we looked forward to the most all year because we were ranked #1 and they were ranked #2. The game went down to the last 3 seconds and we kicked a field goal where we won 56-53."

The Lexington lineman knows where his strengths are currently on the gridiron and makes no bones about it either.

"My footwork supported by my overall strength and my power. I finished my junior year max outs with 1,260 lbs of total weight nearly breaking the school record. I plan on staying in the weight room twice a day so I would say my overall strength is my biggest strength right now."

Aware that there's always room for improvement he told us that he'll continue to push the envelope to get better concerning his strength, speed, and agility.

Schools have started to take notice of Turner and he's got an impressive list of colleges showing him interest currently. He talked at length with us about some of the schools he's already visited, plans on visiting, and what camps he's hoping to attend this off season. One school in fact became the first to offer Turner recently.

I'm hearing from Clemson, South Carolina, Appalachian State, North Carolin, North Carolina State, Western Carolina, Wofford, Citadel, Tennessee, Auburn, and Newberry. I already have an offer from Newberry."

Some of those schools have stepped up their recruiting efforts of Turner compared to others lately.

"Clemson is recruiting me pretty hard. I have a visit this week with the coaching staff and will be attending camp mid-month. North Carolina visited me at school and I plan to attend camp mid-month as well. Appalachian State is coming after me pretty hard too. I talk to coach Ledford and Stepp regularly and will be camping the last of the month."

Turner in fact has visited quite a few schools already like South Carolina, Clemson, Auburn, Coastal Carolina, and Tennessee. He told us that all those schools were great to visit and he's looking forward to taking more visits with them and other schools in the near future.

He is currently in North Carolina where he'll be visiting with North Carolina, North Carolina State, and Western Carolina this week.

"I do have several ACC, Southern Conference, and SEC visits planned for the month of June. UNC, NC State, South Carolina, Auburn, Appalachian State, Tennessee, Coastal Carolina, and several others."

He made it clear that he'd love to hear from more SEC schools like Arkansas and Florida.

"Academics, athletics, game atmosphere, and coaching staff will be important factors for me when choosing a school."

Looking ahead to next season there's one game in particular that Turner says he's really looking forward to.

"Ridgeview, because they have the #1 defensive tackle, Obina Ntiasawage, in the Midlands and I love to prove myself against the best."
