Big time players step up when it matters most and 2013 safety Corey Dogan of Blue Ridge High School did it time and time again last season for the Tigers. Already this off season Dogan has been impressive with a great showing at the Shrine Bowl combine in Spartanburg earlier this year. That's just part of the reason why Dogan is "UP NEXT" with Scout.com.
The 5'10 183 pound prospect had a monster junior season with 121 tackles, 2 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, and 5 pass break ups.
Dogan talked about his most memorable game in which he put forth a huge effort.
"Best game of the season was aginst Pendleton High. I had 24 tackles (15 solo) and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. It was memorable because I won an award for that game."
ACC, SEC, and regional schools are starting to show Dogan interest and he will be visiting one ACC program this week he told us.
"I'm hearing from Georgia Tech, Clemson, Georgia Southern, Maryland, UNC Charlotte, Charleston Southern, Auburn, Kentucky, Coastal Carolina, SC State, and Gardner-Webb. I will be visiting Clemson this week."
Out of those schools Dogan says that Clemson, Georgia Tech, Gardner Webb, Charleston Southern, and Georgia Southern are showing him the most interest right now.
Asked what aspects of his game he feels are his biggest strengths right now he replied, "I'm a very physical and strong safety. I'm also very fast."
Dogan says there's one aspect he'll key on this off season to become an even better.
"I want to work on my reaction time against speedy receivers."
Rivalry games are always key to prospects and the Tigers' chief rival, nearby Greer High, provides Dogan with the game that he's most looking forward to next season.
Asked to compare his style of play to any other player out there Dogan quickly responded.
"Eric Berry, because I'm very physical but when the ball is in the air I turn into a receiver."
When talking about choosing a college destination Dogan says a number of factors will be key to his decision making process.
"Education, conference strength, atmosphere, coaching staff, and playing time will all be important for me when choosing a college."
His work on the field this past season earned him some awards as well as he was named All-Region, 2nd team All County, and the team's defensive MVP.
Given his athletic prowess, speed, playmaking ability, and penchant for contact Dogan should see some offers before too long as his starts to circulate along with his junior season film. SCPrepNation.com will have more updates with him as his recruitment continues to heat up so keep it right here!
