The Abbeville Panthers won another state championship this past season and one of their top returning prospects is 2013 safety prospect Josh Martin. Martin in fact lined up all over the field for the Panthers en route to back to back state titles this past season. He primarily lined up at safety but also split time at quarterback and saw some action as a wide receiver as well.
A couple of schools have started to show interest in Martin and he's hoping that more will start to take a look at him entering his senior season where he's hoping to help continue the Panthers' winning ways.
He talked about what it was like to help guide the Panthers to another state championship this past season lining up at safety and quarterback.
"It was truly a blessing and to have the game controlled in your hands was beyond great."
The game also provided Martin with his best and proudest moment he says.
"The state game was my best. I was 2-3 passing for like 30+ yards and I ran for almost 100 yards if I didn't. What really made it so memorable was that I helped win a state championship."
Martin shared with us his stats from his junior season on the defensive side of the ball.
"I had 82 tackles, 71 assists, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 interception."
He talked about his current strengths and areas of improvement for next season.
"I would saying keying on the field is my biggest strength. I want to improve on my speed the most for next season."
Looking ahead to his upcoming senior season there was little surprise as to what he's hoping to accomplish on the team level and he also talked about what his goals are on a personal level too.
"On a team level we plan on getting back to the championship. On a personal level my goals are to pick up some offers and to help my team win another state title as a senior."
So far Martin says he's only heard from Charleston Southern and South Carolina State but he's hoping that will change in the near future as he prepares for his senior season. There's also a trio of schools that he'd like to hear more from soon.
One game in particular stands out to Martin on the schedule next season and he shared with us why.
"The Greenville game. There's nothing like playing against family to win and having bragging rights."
Martin says he has no preference as to what position he plays in college, as long as he's on the field he says he'll be happy to do whatever college coaches ask of him.
