The Wren Hurricanes host one of the state's most intriguing prospects in the 2013 recruiting class in defensive tackle D.J. Jones. Last season he played for Carolina High School but makes the leap in classification with hopes of putting up similar mind boggling numbers to last season. With three offers already in hand there are a number of schools who will be waiting to see Jones in action early in his senior season before offering.
In fact the 6'1 296 pound prospect has been working hard on showcasing his talents for coaches throughout the off season. He's currently playing 7 on 7 with the Hurricanes...as a wide receiver.
"Yes sir I am playing wide receiver in 7 on 7's now."
His athleticism has caught the eye of one coaching staff where he and the Hurricanes participated recently.
"Vanderbilt is on me pretty good now because I played well during the 7 on 7 tournament we were in there."
His athleticism is apparent because although he's a defensive tackle prospect Jones recently ran a 4.89 second 40 yard dash at Appalachian State and checks in at 296 pounds.
Even though he holds 3 offers currently from Appalachian State, Newberry College, and UNC Charlotte we expect more schools to come see him early on and add to his offer list. Jones is vastly underrated in our opinion but with his junior film starting to make the rounds and if he starts out strong in his senior season there will be plenty of others to join the mix.
