Some still doubt Keiston Smith but one believer besides ourselves is new Union County head coach Steve Tanneyhill. Tanneyhill has seen what the fans at UCHS have seen for the past 2 seasons, Smith being a game changing winner under center.
We've compared Smith to a young Donovan McNabb and he showed it once again with his performance in an exciting 41-3 triumph over AAAA Spartanburg High on Friday night.
Smith was 21-27 for 343 yards and 3 touchdowns through the air. He also rushed for 48 yards and a touchdown on the ground as he accounted for nearly 400 yards of offense on the night.
The 2013 prospect came up big in the fourth quarter finding wide receiver Victor Ruth twice for touchdowns to help seal the victory over the Vikings at Gibbs Stadium on the campus of Wofford College. Smith has a number of schools showing serious interest but has yet to receive his first scholarship offer.
Union County last defeated Spartanburg back in 2007 and the buzz has been huge around the community with new head coach Steve Tanneyhill taking over. The Yellow Jackets will have their toughest test to date this coming Friday as they host Gaffney which lost in the AAAA Division 1 state championship. The Indians bounced back last week with an impressive win over Clinton after taking at thumping at the hands of Northwestern in a surprising loss to many to open the season during Week 0.
