Already known as one of the state's top wide receiver prospects in the 2013 recruiting class Whale Branch's DeVonta' Delaney is experiencing what comes with that label...respect. Opposing teams are making a concerted effort to try and slow down the Whale Branch standout down. After 3 games though Delaney's numbers are strong despite plenty of attention from opposing defenses.
"We're 2-1 and I have 10 receptions for 313 yards and 2 touchdowns so far this season," Delaney told us Saturday morning.
That attention we mentioned before has become commonplace for Delaney he says.
"Yeah I'm facing a lot of double teams now. I got a lot of that last night and last week too."
Asked what parts of his game he feels have improved the most since last season Delaney had a quick reply.
"I think my field vision has increased because since they are doubling me I have to find more ways to get open."
The Whale Branch wideout says they have a bye week next week but will play Denmark-Olar after that next.
Things have been somewhat quiet he says on the recruiting front as well. He holds offers already from Georgia State, Newberry, and Western Carolina early on. There's one school that Delaney made clear that he's wanting to earn an offer from this year.
"I really want to hear more from Georgia Tech."
As of right now Delaney hasn't sat down with any college coaches to arrange any visits but hopes to start doing so soon so that he can see what potential schools have to offer and what their game day atmospheres are like.
