It's been a strange recruitment for 2013 running back Cam Blackburn of Pendleton High School in our opinion. Blackburn has good size, speed, and superb stats on his side as a running back. The numbers are all there including the most important ones, the ones he gets in the classroom. SCPrepNation.com sat down with Blackburn to talk about his recruitment and more with SCPrepNation.com!
As the region player of the year last season Cam Blackburn rushed for over 1,600 yards, had over 2,200+ yards from scrimmage, scored 22 touchdowns, returned 2 kickoffs for touchdowns (including a 99 yarder). The 5'10 192 pound prospect has been a constant for Pendleton over the past two seasons and he's hearing from some schools already for his play on the field.
"I'm hearing from Georgia Tech, Furman, Yale, Charleston Southern, Johns Hopkins, Holy Cross, and Elon. Out of those I'd say Georgia Tech, Furman, Yale, John Hopkins, and Holy Cross are recruiting me the hardest right now."
Given some of the academic powers that are currently showing him interest it's obvious that Blackburn is also a standout in the classroom. He currently reports a 3.7 GPA and a 1410 on the SAT. Given those numbers Blackburn is still awaiting his first scholarship offer which is pretty puzzling.
Given his body of work in the classroom and his prowess on the field it's hard to figure out. He's got good size and speed (4.5 40 time) and the numbers he's posted in his career are
Currently his squad is 2-2 on the season but the goal remains the same for his team.
"We want to win the second consecutive regional championship and a state championship."
Speaking of regional championships the 2013 prospect relived his best game of his junior season in which he helped make that a reality for his team. He also talked about the toughest player he's ever faced as well.
"My best game on varsity was against Liberty HS last year when they were undefeated. This was my most memorable game because everyone was talking about how they were going to beat us. I wasn't about to let that happen. That night I rushed for 310 yards on 21 carries to lead my team to victory and eventually the region championship."
"The toughest player I've ever played against would be Shaq Lawson because he was just a dominant player on the defensive side of the ball."
Blackburn also talked about what his personal ambitions are for this season moving forward.
"My goals are to lead my team to the best of my ability and to earn an athletic scholarship."
Asked about the strengths of his game game on the field Blackburn said his vision and ability to break tackles are his two biggest strengths.
Looking ahead Blackburn has the skills on the field and in the classroom to land some scholarships and he talked about what he'll consider the most when choosing a college.
"The number one thing that I will consider when choosing a college is the education. I know that if I get my education I will be successful in life."
Blackburn says he'd like to major in Architecture, Business, or Engineering in college.
Stay tuned as we'll have more updates with Cam Blackburn moving forward during his senior season as he's hoping to land some scholarship offers
