2015 wide receiver/cornerback prospect Freddie Phillips of Pelion High School continues to draw interest from top programs across the southeastern region. Two weeks ago Phillips journeyed up to Raleigh where he visited with North Carolina State. Phillips' good friend, 2014 OT Christian Taylor, made the trip with him and he already holds a Wolfpack offer. The 2015 prospect had plenty to say about his visit with the Wolfpack with SCPrepNation.com.
"It was pretty good. I enjoyed it!"
One thing really caught Phillips' attention too apparently while at NC State.
"When the entire student section chanted my name!"
The 2015 prospect says he had some time to speak with the NC State coaches prior to the game.
"Yes I did talk with the coaches. They said to send them some more film, and to stay in touch with them."
While there Phillips was highly interested to see how the Wolfpack offense fared. They didn't disappoint the Pelion prospect either he says.
"I like their offense. They had a good bit of passing yards and I like that!"
Another South Carolina prospect was in Raleigh during Phillips' visit. In fact, that prospect is a class of 2013 NC State commmit.
"Marcus Edmond was there from Lower Richland. I got a chance to talk with him. We talked about what made him choose NC State and how he played that Friday."
As we mentioned before Phillips continues to hear from a number of schools throughout the southeast. He talked about some of the ones that he's heard from lately as well as some that he's wanting to visit with this season to see their gameday atmosphere.
Phillips was set to visit with South Carolina this past weekend but a family emergency prevented that visit from taking place. He has stated before that he wants to visit with the Gamecocks so we'll see if he reschedules another visit to Columbia this season.
Before closing with Phillips we asked the sophomore what aspects of his game he feels have improved the most since the conclusion of his freshman season last year. He had this to say.
"I am a lot stronger than I was then so I can fight off blocks easier. I also run routes and get in and out of breaks quicker. My technique is also a lot better on both offense and defense now too."
