To be a sophomore playing on Friday nights against the likes of Byrnes, Dorman, and Gaffney it speaks to the talent of 2015 wide receiver Taz Richardson of Mauldin High School. It was indeed a very impressive season for Richardson and SCPrepNation.com caught up with the young prospect to talk about it and more.
Still relatively unknown with college coaches Richardson made his presence known with opposing teams this year with his play. Those numbers and a strong off season should see college coaches start contacting the Mauldin staff about their 2015 prospect before long.
"I had 39 catches for 469 yards and 9 touchdowns this year."
The 6'0 160 pound sophomore talked about his best game of the season as well.
"My best game this year was against Dorman High School. My numbers were 9 catches for 87 yards and 3 touchdowns. This game was my most memorable because I had a lot of catches and because my first two touchdowns were tipped off of the defenders hand and into my hands."
The Mavericks ended the season with a mark of 4-7. The 2015 prospect talked about what areas he plans on trying to improve the most to take his game to greater heights come next season.
"I play multiple sports such as basketball so that will keep building my legs and this year will be my first year running track so I can get better speed. I will be joining D1 so I can get my strength where it needs to be and also they will work with my route running."
Right now Richardson says his ability to find open spaces on the field and separating from defenders is one of his biggest strengths currently.
As we mentioned before Richardson has yet to hear from any colleges but he's hoping that will change soon. He will participating in multiple camps and combines this off season in hopes of getting more exposure.
He informed us that a school's graduation rates and style of play will be very important to him when it comes time to selecting a school and that he'd like to major in either Business or Sports Management. He currently reports a 3.54 GPA in the classroom and has yet to take the SAT or ACT yet.
