One of the South Carolina's top prospects, 2014 tight end Sean Smith of Summerville High School, was on the road this past weekend. The 6'6 225 pound prospect traveled south and visited the Sunshine State where he spent some time at UCF meeting the staff and checking out the Golden Knights program.
The 2014 prospect gave SCPrepNation.com the scoop about his trip to Florida to visit with Central Florida and more.
"The trip to UCF was awesome! We drove all night to get there and the first coach we met with was head coach George O'Leary, which a a big surprise. We met with him for a while and he seemed really down to earth. We talked a little football but mostly it was about my education and my future after college. I really enjoyed my visit with him."
"We toured the facilities and I met all of the coaches on both sides of the ball. I got to talk with tight ends coach Mike Buscemi for a few minutes but I was able to spend a lot of time with offensive coordinator Charlie Taaffe. We talked about how I would fit into the offense and what my improvement in some areas would do to help my game."
After his visit with the UCF staff Smith participated in the NFTC camp in Orlando.
"NFTC in Orlando was a great experience. The competition was really good and I easily held my own against some of the best tight ends in Florida. I haven't seen the final scores yet to compare, but I think there was only one other tight end that graded out as high as I did and he was looking at three SEC schools. That tells me I should be in the same breath when coaches are talking tight ends."
The Summerville High prospect then traveled back up I-95 back home to South Carolina where he competed in NUC 5-Star Combine in Myrtle Beach.
"On Sunday I went to Myrtle Beach for the National Underclassman 5-Star Combine and won the MVP for my position there."
The miles will pile up again this coming weekend as Smith says he'll be on the road again visiting a school and competing at another NFTC camp.
"This Saturday I am going to North Carolina State for their Junior Day and then on Sunday I will be in Charlotte for NFTC."
Stay tuned to SCPrepNation.com as Smith's stock is starting to rise and he's awaiting his first scholarship offer. We'll have updates with him following his travels this coming weekend.
