Having won a state championship last season 2014 defensive back Diamonte Evans of Cross High School is poised to make another run at a state title with his teammates. The 5'10 170 pound prospect earned All-State honors en route to helping his team win the 1A Division 2 state championship with a 38-26 victory over McCormick High. SCPrepNation.com caught up with Evans as he's hoping to pick up more recruiting interest heading into his senior season next year.
Lining up at safety and running back for the Cross Trojans Evans showed his versatility. He put up some solid numbers for a strong Cross team that finished the season 11-3 winning that state championship.
"This season I rushed for 782 yards on 84 carries and scored 9 touchdowns. On defense I had 74 tackles and 4 forced fumbles."
Thus far the only school that has been showing early interest is Clemson according to Evans.
Having reviewed his film we asked Evans what he felt his biggest strengths are on the field currently?
"My tackling ability and I have good recovery speed."
In regards to improvements Evans says that he'd like to improve in all areas.
"I want to improve on everything because you can never be too good."
Diamonte isn't the only Evans on the team because his twin brother Dionte Evans is also one of the Trojans' top prospects as well. So what is it like having his twin on the squad as well to carry the load and would the twins like to continue playing ball together on the next level or will they go their separate ways?
"(Laughs). Well yeah we like to get at it and the trash talk is a never ending thing with us. We are really hoping to go to the same school possibly."
Having won a state championship this season Evans says he and other returning players are hoping to repeat as state champions next year.
So what would he like to accomplish on a personal level during his senior season?
"I'd like to rush for 1,000+ yards on offense and make 100+ tackles and have 5 or more interceptions on defense."
Evans says that the chance to play early and a team's style of play will be key components for him when looking at potential colleges.
SCPrepNation.com will have more updates with Diamonte and his twin brother Dionte as they plan on being proactive on the camp and combine circuit so stay tuned.
