When your team wins a state championship and you pick up All-State honors as well it's been a great season. Such is the case for 2014 CB/RB Dionte Evans of Cross High School. Evans is "UP NEXT" with SCPrepNation.com as we went one on one with him.
Cross finished the season 11-3 but powered down the stretch leading to a state championship. Dionte Evans was one of the primary catalyst for their state title run. The 5'10 170 pound prospect talked with us about his strengths and weaknesses on the field.
"Well on the offensive side and special teams I killed them this year, I played quarterback, running back, slot, and I also return kickoffs and punts. It was a good year for me I led my team to a state championship."
"To get better I want to get stronger."
Offensively Evans rushed for 1,066 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also had 380 yards receiving. Playing at cornerback where we're projecting him at on the next level he made 33 tackles for a strong defense.
Evans is currently heading to visit with Charlotte and has a visit lined up with Furman as well. He also received an invitation to visit Coastal Carolina earlier this morning as well.
The 2014 prospect as mentioned previously is a twin and we asked him what it's like having a twin brother on the team and what their outlook is as far as recruiting and possibly playing together on the next level.
"It is good to know we both could be recruited for D1 schools but so far I'm getting the phone calls and letters from coaches who want to offer me. I've been to the five star invite camps to be ranked & Nike combine in North Carolina this past weekend. He is better at the track side but definitely good enough to play college football too."
"We may go our separate ways but we want to be together but so far schools are only really contacting me."
Having won a state title Evans told us what he feels the team needs to do in order to try and repeat again.
"My goal for my team is to keep playing all over the field to help my team the best way that I can. I want to try to keep my guys focused to get another state championship by just taking one game at a time."
On a personal level Evans says he'd like to rush for 2,000 yards and score 30 touchdowns.
When analyzing potential colleges Evans says that education, location, early playing time, conference strength, and style of play will be heavy factors for him to consider when making a decision on a destination.
SCPrepNation.com will have more updates with Dionte Evans upon his return from some of these visits so stay tuned. For now check out some of his testing measurables below...
