The basketball landscape is starting to grow here in South Carolina when it comes to high school prospects. What we've known for years has more colleges from across the country taking a more serious look at Palmetto State hoopers in recent years. One prospect who enjoyed a strong AAU season was 2014 Saluda High point guard Maurice Howard. His play earned him his first scholarship offer and plenty of new suitors, that's why he's "UP NEXT" with SCPrepNation.com!
Playing for the Emerald City Dream Team on the AAU circuit the 2014 prospect saw his stock rise. Although his team didn't have the best showing in Orlando it didn't stop Howard from showcasing his ability for plenty of scouts and coaches in attendance. He talked about how things have changed for him in regards to recruiting recently.
"Yeah we just got done playing at Nationals in Orlando. We came up short a lot of games."
That still didn't stop one school from being the first to offer Howard.
"I got my first offer from Southern Wesleyan. It felt great! I couldn't do anything but smile."
Howard says other schools have amped up their interest after a great showing on the circuit this off season.
"Schools like Francis Marion, Wofford, and UNC-Wilmington are showing a lot of interest now."
Howard also shared with us some schools he'd like to hear more from soon if possible.
"I'd like to hear from Presbyterian, Florida Gulf Coast, Mercer, and VCU."
Breaking down his own game Howard says that his midrange game, defense, and passing abilities are his greatest strengths currently. He'd like to improve on his 3-point shooting and ability to pull up off the dribble this year.
With his senior year set to begin soon Howard talked about some of the goals he has for himself and his team this year.
"I'd like to lead my team to a region championship and make it deep into the state playoffs this year."
SCPrepNation.com will have more updates with Maurice Howard so keep it right here for the very latest...
