UP NEXT: 2016 OT Kevin McCray

Timberland High School has produced a number of talented prospects over the years but none quite as big as 2016 prospect Kevin McCray. The 6'8 320 pound offensive tackle has immense size which can't be taught and tons of upside. Willing to learn and improve McCray should see his recruitment pick up over the course of the next 2 seasons, that's why he's "UP NEXT" with SCPrepNation.com!

Kevin McCray Profile

Today's athletes are getting bigger and stronger it seems. One thing remains the same though with that statement, "you can't teach size". In our latest edition of "UP NEXT" on SCPrepNation.com we feature 2016 Timberland High School offensive tackle Kevin McCray. At 6'8 320 pounds the young sophomore stands out when he's on the field and he's hoping that with plenty of hard work he'll have some offers coming his way over the next couple of seasons.

It is still relatively early in terms of recruiting for Kevin McCray but the state's two power programs have already made contact he says.

"So far I've heard from Clemson and South Carolina. They haven't really said anything specific to me. Clemson said they want me to come to the game next Saturday though."

"Carolina has said the same thing. That they want me to come visit them for a game soon."

So what other schools is the big lineman looking forward to hearing from?

"I'm looking to hearing from as many schools as possible! I just want to see what my choices are."

So far says he has not taken any visits yet but that should change soon with the invitations extended he says.

"I'll go visit Clemson and Carolina first, then to the others who may be interested in offering."

Given his immense size we asked McCray what he feels his strengths are as a offensive tackle right now as a sophomore. We also asked McCray if he felt he excelled at run blocking or pass protection at this stage.

"I'd say my biggest strengths are being smart and my strength. I know I still have a lot of work to do in these next two seasons to get even better though. It's kind of a combination. I'm really good at pass blocking but I know how to down a guy when I need to."

The 2016 prospect also talked about what aspects of his game he needs to improve on to become even better moving forward.

"I honestly have to get faster and be more aggressive."

McCray says he watches a lot of film of offensive tackles on the college and NFL ranks to try and learn techniques and tricks to try and improve each and every time he steps on the field.

"For the team, we want to win region and get the seniors a championship ring. For me personally, I just want to have a good season knowing that I played my hardest."

The sophomore prospect had a message for potential college coaches as well.

"I'm just a cool, calm, and collected kind of guy. I always take care of my academics and get my schoolwork done. I care a lot about my grades. I'll do anything for the team and I'm just an all around guy who's trying to improve to get better each and every day."

With so much potential the 2016 prospect also shows an early penchant for working hard not only on the field but in the classroom as well.

"My GPA is about a 4.0, I think like 3.9 something. I've won so many academic awards over the years I can't keep count. I've won more for academics than athletics so far but I've won a couple for football and also track but hopefully I'll add more for football over the next couple of years."

McCray says he plans on taking the SAT in November and will probably take it a couple of times before his senior year to achieve a high score to go with his already high GPA in the classroom.
